View Full Version : Adding imprints, sews, etc. to a photo of a leather surface

Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to put imprints and sews on a photo of a leather surface - a shoe, to be precise. Also, I want to change surface attributes (from smooth leather to transparent plastic sewn on the leather, for example).

Here's what I plan to do:

- recreating a part of the shoe surface in modeller, with UV map
- loading the photo as a background picture into layout, switching camera to ortho, setting resolution to the same values as the photo. Placing the surface object.
- roughly recreate the lighting situation of the photo in layout, plus luminous polygons for the reflections
- putting the imprints as a b/w texture on the surface object,
- render and put it all together in PS.

what I would like to know - is there a way to use Lightwave to create the imprints on the surface in Layout? I feel Lightwave would give me much more control than PS, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Imprints? Do you mean using a displacement map?

Your proposed workflow seems correct. Onward!

Use Image Filter/PSD export; Channels become layers in PS since you are up for partially modeling the shoe.
