United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO):
http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/provapp.htm

United States Copyright Office:
http://www.copyright.gov/

Patents, trademarks and copyrights all are different entites.

You would get a patent for a system or process, new steam engine design as an example. You would get a trademark on a corporate name or the name of an entety and maybe their logo, Coca-Cola has a trademark on their logo as does Pepsi. You would get a copyright on a document or thing, as an example you would copyright your work of art or a collection of photographs.

that is VERY general. There are FAQ on each of the links, you should read so see which apply to your needs, as well as the procedures to follow and forms to be filled out.

You may use Firefox which has a built in spell check or go to http://dictionary.reference.com/ to help you with simple words like patent and does.
