View Full Version : OBJ - What could I be doing wrong?

Here is the issue,

I made an object in Lightwave 9.5. I have 3 UV maps. Each on there own seperate Texture Maps (Push the T, and in the drop down menu to the right they are listed).

I then I export as OBJ. Open Up Daz... bring object in, no UV, open Poser, bring object in, no UV, open Blender bring in object, no UV.

Where are the [email protected]#@#%@[email protected] UVs!

Are the UVs showing up when you re-import the .OBJ into Lightwave?

Good thinking.

No the OBJ doesn't come back with it's UVs

Doesn't OBJ file format have just one possible UV.. ?

I was thinking this so I deleted all but 1 UV map and tried again. I still get nothing in the OBJ

I got it now. It's PLG that is not working.

Check what type of UV is made.. Whether it's continuous or discontinuous..

Well it turns out that if the UV isn't applied to a surface it doesn't go with the Object

It's always been that way. It's not really a fault of Modeler not being able to export the map, because it is, in fact, still there, but rather it's that Poser or Daz Studio don't allow you to "see" any available vertex maps, in order to assign or unassign them. The closest you get to that is polygon groups.

No they arent there actually. If you read the 3rd post, I tried to open the OBJ file back into Lightwave and there were no maps that came back with the object.

Oops, you're right.
Sorry about that, I could have sworn a UV map would stay with the object at least in the UV map dropdwn in the surface editor, if not actually applied.
Been so long since I messed with OBJ, I guess I forgot. :o
If you save it out as .lwo, the UV maps will stay with the model, whether they're applied to a surface or not, but not with OBJ export.
My apologies, I guess I got the two confused. :o
