ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 Graphics Card. Does anybody know if this card will work in a 2 x 3 :neener:Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro?

I think you might have to wait for Apple or ATI to make a Mac version of the card. As far as I'm aware current ATI drivers in OS X (ATIRadeonX2000) don't support the R700 so even using the injection trick (Natit, ATIinject) would most likely not work unless there's some kind of hack done to make the 4870 appear like a 3870.

Buy hey at least you have a newer Mac Pro with PCIe 2.0. I have the first gen. Mac Pro at work so I can only go as a high as ATI 3870 HD unless they make 4870 PCIe 1.0 compatible. :)

I have a brand new hd4850 (ok, ok, in a PC!!!) and it ROCKS!!!! And that HD4870x2 must be a real monster.

Turns out that 10.5.5 has some kind of support for the ATI 48xx series, but since it's still in testing we really won't know until it's released to the public, unless you can "find" the kexts somewhere and try.

If you have macpro you can use bootcamp to access the card, it will just ignore the card when you go into osx. If your risky, I heard you can wait for a custom bios to flash the new graphic card to run on OSX, but only if apple release drivers that can work with it.

You will not be able to flash the card if it has a 64KB eeprom because most PC/Mac cards have a 128KB eeprom to fit the BIOS and EFI portions of the card's firmware.

You could flash just one and not worry about the other...but that's not the greatest solution :)
