View Full Version : Will 9.5 cost anything?

I came across the NewTek Europe shop and saw that there's a LW 9.3 license with free upgrade to 9.5 for 699 - and there's a LW 9.3 license with LWCAD 1.6 bundled, for 499.. I guess the last one doesn't give the buyer the free upgrade to 9.5 whenever it comes.

However - what would the upgrade to 9.5 cost ?

9.5 is (unbelievably) a free update, if you're on 9.x you should be okay. But I'd check those offers with Ben Vost, he'll be able to clarify for you.

If you own 9.x. You own 9.x. :)

Err, basically if you purchase any iteration of LW 9, you get all point upgrades free. But, like Matt said, BeeVee should officially verify the information, or Chuck.

Really? I would like 9.pi please.

@geothefaust: really? That's interesting. I just thought it was strange it was mentioned so specifically on the bundle with LW + training DVD for €699 vs. absolutely no info about any free upgrade for the bundle with LW + LWCAD 1.6 for €499..

Price for the license has been this way in both 8 and 9. Though, it will change with 10.

If you already own LW9, any point release is free until the next major release (10) or until NT says otherwise.

As for LWCAD bundle, that's exclusive to those upgrading from an older version or purchasing a new license. If you already own a copy of LW... Well, SOL is all I can say.

I shall just add my official confirmation and Shrox you should already have 9.pi if you're not in the beta ;)

This is what the shop says about the LW+LWCAD bundle.

Including:
LightWave v9 DUO (Mac/Windows): program CD, content DVD for Mac & Windows, USB Duo Key and English PDF manuals. Also includes SUBDO bundled version for LightWave (Windows CD - Mac with Boot Camp, electronic manual) and LWCAD1.6 plugin download (MAC/Windows).

I can't see anything there about upgrade only ? Or maybe I'm just an inverted blonde? ;)

I don't know where you got that from but we haven't offered a bundle with SubDO (or LWCAD 1.6) for a long time? The current offer is with the excellent Learning LightWave 9 DVD by Olivier Michon (dubbed into English by ahem yours truly) - http://www.newtek-shop.com/pages.php?p=Articles&AID=169&SID=794e4287b78971aa587e48c05e309731

EDIT: Oops, I see in our Bargains section we still have them (if we have stock). Yes, this version will still have all the benefits any other offer has. Like goethefaust said, once you have LightWave 9, you have LightWave 9.x

I got it from the "Bargain" part from NewTek Europes shop.

If I could "get away" with the option for €499 I'd go with that in a blink. :)

Now that I think about it 9.pi is not a good idea, since the release would never even be finished as far as a name goes. An infinite number of disks would be burned on the version title alone.

Not true, for two reasons!

1. Each digit would be written at half the size of the preceding one, to fit them all on!

2. LW only goes to 64 bit precision anyway, which would fit just fine!

Which rather reminds me...

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.
Those who understand binary notation, and those who don't.

Yep, you can't write the last digit of an infinite number.

I fell into the SOL category when I bought 9.0.
I still feel like I got my money's worth from Newtek so far.
