I want to use the mask feature to create a widescreen effect for a still render however, I can't seem to get it to work. I check the mask box in the render globals and the mask options, use globals check box in the camera properties but it doesn't work, am I missing a setting somewhere? I'm using LW 9.3, thanks.

Perhaps you checked "Use Global" next to the resolution settings instead of checking "Use Global" at the "Mask Options" of the camera properties?

no, that's not it. Am I supposed to have a setting for the mask top and mask left? My book doesn't say.

Hmm, yeah, the manual isn't clear at all. What seems to do the trick is the following:

Let's say you want a mask of 100 pixels at the top and bottom. For Mask Top you put 100. For the bottom you need to add the number of pixels from the top (100) plus the number of pixels you want at the bottom (100), so 100+100=200, and that value you subtract from the total height of the image, and put this value in Mask Height. :screwy: So, let's say your render is 600 pixels high, you put 100 at Mask Top, and 400 at Mask Height. 8~

(And leave Mask Left at 0, and Mask Width the number of pixels of the render width. :stumped:)

Yeah, it seems crazy, but perhaps there's a purpose. I don't understand why there isn't just a Mask Right and Mask Bottom instead of Mask Width and Mask Height. Could anybody explain this?

I'll try that, thanks.

A few seconds in photoshop lets you do this with much more control.
