I was all stoked to use the Surface ID buffer in the PSD export plugin, so I wouldn't have to make any duplicate models to render separate mattes.

Now I see that the buffer is completely un-anti-aliased :twak: which, unless I'm mistaken, makes it *completely* useless. In order for it to work as a matte, the AA must be identical to the rgb's AA, so rendering double-size and scaling down is out of the question.

Is there something I'm not seeing, some way to get this to work?

ID matte is never AA'ed. there are threads about this. I'm not exactly sure how it is even useful. I definitely feel your pain.

I'll ask a compositor at work, they might have a idea and even come up with a workaround, even though they don't use any object id techniques. I should've thought of that before -

Well apparently ILM uses this, un-anti-aliased. Bad Toby:twak:

But my co-workers were unclear on how to use it if your objects are overlapping, otherwise you'd do an unpremult, color-correct, then premult it again. Surface ID would be even less possible.
