The video using Cloth dynamics to do a UV unwrap is neat, too:

What's really frustrating regarding this tool is that because the genius who made it doesn't seem to speak english, this little gem has no future other than being used by Japanese speaking people (lucky you) - There must someone in the community that could translate this tool and its doc so it can be made available to a much larger audience - this is really sad no one has even tried.

Trust me, if this tool would have been made by someone speaking a language I can understand (Japanese unfortunately not being one of them), I would have contacted that guy and would have offered all the help I could give to help

That's dumb - a FREE plugin that seems to be that GREAT (at least for someone like me, not being an animator and all - I guess real animators would think it's crap), and can't be used at all - what a waste :cursin:

Ok gotta learn Japanese now, because all I know is "Koni Chi Wah - Sushi - Yakitori - Maki - Domo Arigato - Sayonara" and I doubt this could be of any help concerning 3D animation plugins ;)

I don't know - I hope they do

And there's also Tesselator, who if I remember correctly is speaking Japanese too, but it's been a looooooong time I didn't hear about him ???

I've an animator who speaks Japanese fluidly, I'll ask if he has interest to make the translation.

I've followed Automaton for a while. To my knowledge, its a pre-built rig and requires much tweaking to get it into your own model.

My personal problem with auto-walk, is that it's not realistic. You don't want multiple characters to all have the same walk. If your character has a limp, you're not going to use it.

But I don't discourage using it. Definitely try it out.

that would be really nice of him if he could spare the time...i just want to understand it enough so i can try it out and see what it can do for rigging and animating in lw now that people have also took another look at IKB

Hi,

I am using Automaton Tools for a long time now. From the beginning to be exactly.
Its my Nr1 plugin for CA. It started a long time ago with ACS3b from Lukasz Pazera.

This great japanese guy Noboyama took ACS3b (which was free) and made the ACS3b Tools. After that he improved the rig, made a great Item Picker, better IK FK switch, load and save poses (for the whole body or just parts of it), copy and paste poses etc. and Automaton Tools was born.

The thing with the footsteps is not an autowalker like in 3DStudio Max. But you can make a walk cycle in place very fast with ATPastePoseAdv and then as you move the character forward add footsteps to lock the feet down, after that you can tweak it as you like.

I have tried all autoriggers for lightwave and this is the one I like the most (and its free!!). I can switch from IK to FK for arms, hands, legs, feet and the head. There is also a great multi constrain plug included. You will get a biped rig for weightmaps, without wightmaps or half weightmaps, and a quad rig for cats/dogs and horses. This whole system may look complicated at the beginning (maybe for a beginner it is) but if you already know rigging and animating in lightwave you only need a little bit patience to figure things out. With Automaton Tools and the good old Keytrak I can animate very fast, I am not missing much, really.

Am I really the only one who got this to work?
What I did was to translate his online diary with yahoo into a very funny english, but it was good enough in combination with the pictures and movies to figure things out. And I knew the ACS3b rig in and out.

I have tried to contact him a few times to thank him and ask a few questions, but all I got back was an automatic email that he cant speak english. Also he is very fast with new versions. If something isnt working in a new LW version usually two or three weeks later he has a new version online. For now it works great with LW 9.3.1 but is broken in LW 9.5b. I guess he will wait until LW 9.5 is finished to build in all the new and great CA tools of LW 9.5 :).

I have no time to write a manual for this (it would be very hard to describe anyway) but maybe I could make a video if I can find some time in the next few weeks, if you like.

Looking for some AT users to share experiences!

Regards, Robert

A tut video!?really good idea.
I've used it a few time..
so far so good.beside that I've used another one called J_Auto_Rig.And also the simple rigger(it's broken after LW9)
I like J_Auto_Rig most. It's so simple and let me ajust part of them.

The Automaton tools I used a Dstorm plugin called skelegon editor to pre-set the weight map and the skelegon partnership. And I just use the "IK mode only "...
I lookforward to dig it deeper...so wait for your tut video, sir!

I assume you´re using an old version of LW, right? I´ve been dearly missing Keytrak for the last few years, specially how you could key your selection sets and the layers, both functionalities missing from the current dopetrack.

No, still working with 9.3.1. The graphics of the keyframes is a little bit odd but its usable. I cant imagine working without it. It was broken in 8.x, cant remember which one. And I have heard that its not working in 9.5b either, maybe this will be the end of the line. If you still have it try it.

Yes, I used this too because its Timothy Albees rig, and I like that a lot.
