help:Need a fast and easy way to animate a hose falling

A simple bone chain would work but if you have time you could use cloth dynamics on it.

Ha ha, not a chance.

I am but a simple newb. I just thought that maybe it would be quick enough to draw in some bones. really easy if the hose model is in a straight non-bendy position - just add in one bone the full length and then split into however many you want.

then select your object and ctrl+b to activate ikboost.

then you get all your ikboost nodes which you can drag about or fix or ikstop by right clicking suggest getting more detail on that from one of the free tutorials out there ( http://www.ikboost.com or http://www.lightwiki.com/IKBoost )

if you want total control over where the hose falls then this might be the easiest way. On the other hand William's tutorial regarding using cloth effects will probably achieve a more realistic look faster.

Also William did one with an octopus with ikboost and bone dynamics on the tentacles which is well worth a look.


horses for courses I guess. All depends on the effect you're trying to achieve

(my previous comment was just a little joke regarding the heated debates about the use of IKboost for Character animation that are going on elsewhere in the forum)
