I'm attempting a long overdue cleanup of my Lightwave files, which have grown into an appalling mess of directories that I have accumulated over the years and versions, with each new release getting a new directory, or more probably several...

So what are the tools to help me in this? I'd like to get a view of the files without having to actually load, and it would also be handy to have a cross reference of objects and scenes, (so I can tell which scenes use a given object for example...)

One of the things I like about Vue (and there are not many) is the way I get a thumbnail view of a scene or an object without having to load it.

Maybe this could help : 3DBrowser Pro (http://www.mootools.com/plugins/us/3dbrowserpro/index.asp) or 3DBrowser light (http://www.mootools.com/plugins/us/3dbrowserlight/index.asp) - seems like those apps do what you need

Thanks, yes I gave it a quick go but it keeps locking up all the time. It's exactly the kind of thing I am after, but it seems about as stable as a one legged drunk on a unicycle.

I also gave K3D a go, but thats a case of load one object at a time, which is not a lot better than loading into Modeler...

3D Browser Works fine on my 64 bit machine, except once and awhile there is a folder that is to large, over 5 meg and it seems to have problems..
So I usually try to skip the large Object Files...

I try to put thumbnail images in the object folders and scene folders..
And put a text file in there also, stating when and for who, what info..
Yep the content folder can get cluttered ...

I name the scene, object, image folders with the same name..

Once or twice a month i will try to organize stuff, what a job...

When You get the Content folder cleaned up...
I know I have done it allot..
Create a New Content Folder, they have the Classic Content folder, The New Content Folder.
I started A new Content Folder A few years back..
All the Original Content I put In the Content Folder With a new Name, Original Content, then you have the Classic Content inside that Content...
And created a New Content With Branches...

Yes, it does seem to be larger folders that give it trouble - but I have lots of individual objects over 5 meg, and the big folders are the ones that need sorting!!!

What about TrueLoad. By TrueArt. If all you want to do is see your LW files.

Sorry guys I didn't know the apps I suggested were having such issues - Next time I'll suggest apps that I'd already have fully tested, I promise :)
