I'm going to be buying a new Mac Pro within the next few weeks, and I'm trying to decide between a couple of graphics cards.

The Quadro is supposedly designed for animation/rendering, but the 8800 is much less expensive, and I can use those in SLI.

The FX 5600 is about $2,700 more than a GeForce 8800GT 512mb.

So, which would you choose? What's better for Lightwaving?

Obviously, I'm trying to get as much bang for my buck as possible. So, any suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks,
MS

WOW! If that only is not enough to make up your mind, well then the economy is certainly not hurting YOU! :)

From what I have gathered on here and other sites the small performance gain you get from a Quadro in Lightwave does not justify the extra money you will pay for it.

I am using a single 8800 GTS myself and have never had any problems.
You would be better off spending the extra money on a faster CPU with more cores as this is what counts when rendering. The graphics card is not used in the final render.

Also I'm not sure Lightwave will get any advantage from SLI, but if anyone knows different to anything I have said please correct me. :D
