Well I just downloaded the new iPhone software and the itunes controller and I came up with an idea...would it be cool if we could have a render monitor on the iPhone, so if you were out and about or just in another room you could check the progress on your iPhone. Obviously the monitoring from another location would require some router config and DMZ stuff, but it would still be cool.

Yeah that would be kinda cool. I don't know that I would limit it specifically to an iPhone though. Even just an email with a completion update would be nice. If nothing else just to verify that a long render has in fact completed, not to have to come in the next day to find the computer/network crashed.

Have you tried the dev software (http://developer.apple.com/iphone/) for the iphone? The interface is very intuitive... they put some real effort into their SDK, which is always great to see ..

Uhhh.... that thread was about .Mac/MobileMe.

I'm talking a GUI version pushed to the iPhone like the iTunes controller does.

Can't you set up VNC over SSL? I thought I had seen someone do that with a jailbroken iphone.

I don't have one myself. If anyone wants to donate one, I'd be happy to test it out for the benefit of the community.

Cheers

Yes there is!!

I've tested it and it works :D

Speed over a local network is adequate, I've not tested a mobile network though.

BTW you don't need a jailbroken phone to use it.

Yes the idea of VNC over the iPhone is very cool... I'd be curious to see the speed of it myself over 3G and over wifi... I think the full version is only $6 too... (and there is a limited free version)
