View Full Version : individual particle alpha

Is there a method for animating the alpha of a single particle over its lifetime? I'm using 9.5, a basic emitter, and hv sprites. Setting the opacity and density parameters in the hv shading tab seems to affect the entire system, so it seems like it would be a setting in the particle emitter.

I have had minimal success with animating the particle size, but I really want to adjust the particle opacity independently.

Thanks in advance!

The dissolve param in the hv panel applies to the entire system as far as I can tell. I'm looking for a per particle envelope. Maybe I'm missing something, but this seems like a fundamental feature that has to be there somewhere.

Here's a really basic test scene (9.3) with an envelope applied to the hv dissolve parameter, if anyone wants to have a go at it.

You can apply the dissolve in the texture gradient to have particles dissolve over time, relative age, speed, etc.

Thanks Mr Rid!

I've been searching for this feature for ages, and now I can finally do something productive with particles :)

...Amazing demo reel btw!

My pleasure.

Be sure to understand the difference between particle age & relative age.
