OK... so I was wondering if anyone around here knows of a way to mix normal maps in the surface editor. For instance... I have 2 normal maps for a character, one which covers everything, and a second higher resolution version for just the head/face...

With something like bump u can just layer one over the other, and use an alpha to mix them... but how do I do it with normals.:confused:

In node editor, using Tools>Mixer should work as long as overlapping normals don't diverge too much.

Connect the Normal output from the two normal maps to the mixer color inputs, then drive mixer opacity with your alpha channel. Note that the main Surface node can not accept colors as inputs in bump and normal (all other nodes do the conversion on the fly). So plug a Math>Vector>Normalize node between the Mixer output and the Surface normal input.

ahh... u know i saw the normalize node... but saw the vector input, and just didnt even try, as u often cant connect colour to vector.
