I have this project for a logo and I wana make it a highly reflective metal. and I I cant figure out how to use conductor any help.:help:

All you need to do is plug the 'Conductor' node into the 'Material' input on the 'Surface' node. Bear in mind, any reflective material, especially reflective metal is dependant on what it can reflect. So if it's in a bright environment on it's own, it will just look grey. So make sure you have some bright and dark objects in your scene to give it some sexy reflections.

You could also light it with a HDRI image.

Check out Smart IBL (http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/index.html) by Christian Bloch (http://www.hdrlabs.com) for a quick way to setup a scene using one.

There does not appear to be a reflection input on the conductor node. Are you sure this is where you plug the gradient into?

In some Material Nodes, Specular = Reflection amount, since specular hot stops are in reflections. Still, in a way that Specularity/Glossiness mentality applies here, but with actual reflections, being Roughness = Glossiness in that mentality.

No Specular input either I'm afraid. So I'm looking at the Dielectric node right now. The only available inputs are:

Reflection Samples
Refraction Index
Refraction Samples
Bump Height

Which one should I use?

Funny, i'm working with dielectric right now =)

In which you want to input data Dielectric or Conductor? In Conductor is in Specular, in Dielectric you need to use db&w's Material Blender Node to manipulate Dielectric Reflection Shading.

Oh. My bad. Yes. I'm using the Dielectric Node for doing windows in a architectural rendering. I just wanted to get some more reflection in the windows. Would you mind explaining how to use a material mixer as you mentioned? Thx.

Use db&w tools > "Material Blender" (Thank you Mike!!!). Get it here (http://www.db-w.com/content/view/137/175/).

I'm using this right now to tone down Dielectric Reflections, but in your case it's going to be used to increase them.
I hope this is not a dirty hack that will lead you (and me) into problems down the road. Here is how:

flat surfaces can be a little dull for metallics, you should consider adding Very slightly brushed bumps in it too, Anisotrophy shading can be nice too..but avoid using fprime with that, some black spots are showing with anisotrophy and fprime.

To either have the metal logo highly reflective or less reflective with reflection blur, you need to check the reflection blur in the conductor node
Advanced tab, but you will not see any blurred reflection until rising up the
Refraction roughness in the previous tab, also set your specularity to something like 50-100%

Good color might be somewhere from grey to pure white.

of course you need something that reflects as been mentioned here,
I mostly use hdr images directly in the conductors advanced tab as reflection image, and set mode to raytracing and spherical map.

You could also set the reflection image by add Environment/textured environment instead of the surfaces, or use the Image world for light probes.

Hdri lighting and reflection can be render time consuming, and the Free
sIBL plugin helps setting that up much easier.

If you have a complete room with lotīs of models in there, you probably will do fine to just use raytracing without hdr, since you have the "real world" modeled in there for all reflections.

I use the conductor material for most reflections and metal in our gym machine renders and for the Metal logo on the machines..


some issues thou since the models are exported from solidworks, the metal logo isnīt completly flat, but have a very slight round surface,
so normal smoothing can be tricky.

I will probably start to use sIBL thou, since I think the metal and reflections will be better with a good hdr image within a spherical environment and lighting.
