Hi everyone, I'm new to LightWave, just started a few months back. i'm now on my first assignment. I'm starting on an ipod. Just needing a few tips to finish this before next week. I've done the basic shape, hold switch, headphone jack and the connection port. I'm just in need of help for these things.

1. Wanting to know the best way to model the front of the ipod. eg. the clickwheel, the screen and the colours. What's the best way to go about this? Model everything or just slap an image of an ipod on the top polygon?

2. How would I model the LCD?

3. If you look at an ipod from the side, there is a glass like surface on the top of the ipod, beneath that is the white layer. How would I do this glass surface? would making a transparent polygon on top of this white layer work?

4. How would i do the chrome on the back? I know I'd do it through the texture editor, but I don't know the settings to get surfaces to look like chrome or glass etc. So is there like a database or something around full of presets or anything?

Could anyone give their opinions on my first creation? Should I add something? take something away? any ideas to improve?

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Josh.

Whoa there young wipper snapper, thats a load o questions for a 1st post. Anyways, i like what you've done so far and techically its a good one to start with.

Indeed there is a good preset lib try-http://www.lededesigns.com, its fab.

Just to help you along the way, its key you use either gradients or a sassy hdr image for your reflections. This is what gives the illusion of glass or chrome. As for the model, id put a slight bevel or lip between the two said surfaces and id deffo model in the display as you mentioned. Have a look on this site....theres a number of super oober ipods here!

Enjoy n welcome to the forums
