is there anything like solid sktetch for lightwave?..
[as i saw in a recent modo training vid]

seems to be modo's answer to zbrushes zsphere's for roughing out a model.

maybe a plugin/scrpt?

i'd imagine no one has a single clue to what i'm refering to re the modo solid sketch...

but most everyone know's about zsphere's in z brush so let me modifiy the Q and ask if there's anything like z sphere's style of modeling for other apps including lightwave as a plugin or script?

Metaballs is about the closest thing I can think of to solid sketch in LW...and that's a stretch... quite a stretch, actually. ;)

hmm..yeah..not quite 'modeling tools' meta balls really..

...well i've been playing with zsphere's in zbrush this weekend...i also bought a couple of training vids on z shere's to de mistify some of it from gnomology...

gotta say even with the limitations that zsphere's have they're great for starting off your model, to either be sculpted in zbrush or the low poly version taken straight to lightwave to subpatch...

here's the cat model i've been making today

Hey that's pretty good so far, Steve.
I've been using ZB since version 3 came out and I still don't "get" modeling with Z spheres. Drives me nuts trying to make them do what I want.
No biggie, I really only use ZB for sculpting existing models and making normal and displacement maps.
Probably I ought to get one of those gnomon vids.

thanks

yeah if you go to http://gnomonology.com/ you can cherry pick vids to buy and download rather then buy and have dvd's ship from gnomonworkshop

pretty cheap way to fill in some gaps by just getting chapters you need or the smaller vids that just cover 'bits' like the zsphere vids do.

To start getting a handle you could try Pixologic's ZClassroom. (http://pixologic.com/zclassroom/registration.php) It has several videos just about ZSpheres. And it's free. :)
