Some people really have the marbles to think they can get by trying to sell crack software on Ebay...

I sent him a question asking him if he was including the hardware. If he comes back with anything else but "yes", I'll report it to eBay and NewTek

I just asked a similar question. It's one thing if the opening bid was $50, but if you noticed it was priced "BUY NOW"....meaning it's not being auctioned and that he's selling more than one copy!!!

Just reported him too..anybody else want to jump in for good measure?

Anyone else get a reply? I did. Check out this lame response...

------
Hi - not allowed to sell - "cracked" versions on eBay - sorry.
No dongle - already registered - used in my shop.
------

Uhhh .. yeah .. "already registered". Gee, so I guess I can just toss my USB dongle then huh?

The guy responded to my question with this:
"Hi - sorry you feel like that - I bought 3 for my shop from a computer dealer - have installed one of them on 3 of my PCs.
If I was a crook - do you think I would use Ebay ???"

- dayton_boys

Guess that means it's legit then, huh, guys? He bought 3 copies from a "COMPUTER" dealer...wow. Didn't know Computer Dealers were authorized Newtek Resellers.

Hehehe, that was pretty lame. Who did he think he was fooling with that? Crooks use Ebay all the time.

What? Lightwave, Modo, and Animation Workshop v2 for only $50? I am totally buying this!

Actually makes me want to spend the $50 and see how big of a deal I can make of it with eBay...

Was that a REAL Rolex for $20? Man, thanks for the tip! :D

By the way, did anyone notice his description of the product?....Lightwave 3D...THE BEST! Doesn't that make you all warm and fuzzy, and want to forgive the guy? We have a hard enough time defending LW as "Very Capable"...but if you start saying it's THE BEST around here, prepared to get bum-rushed :twak:

Honestly, i think that would be a fair trade. although i think you should throw something extra with the dongle to make it more fair.

I wanted to sell mystery envelopes for a living but then I realized that the educational requirements were just more then I was willing to commit to. Not everyone can be a doctor or mystery envelope seller.

That particular copy is not longer listed, but it seems hw has others there. Wonder if Newtek even bothers with saps like that.
It seems that Ebay lets everything slide unless you happen to be a huge corporate giant like Sauron...I mean Autodesk.

Hey, how about this guy in the UK selling copies of Blender?!!! :D

I see he keeps relisting it over and over.

He still never answered my question as to how he thinks it will work without a dongle.

He still never answered my question as to how he thinks it will work without a dongle. He won't...he knows he's selling free crackware, just like the idiot selling other idiots free copies of Blender :stumped:
It's probably going to take a dozen or so volunteers from this forum to report the chump before Ebay will get tired of it and do something about it.

Actually I saw a guy selling, get this, a whole CD of "open source software". Stuff like Blender, K-3D, Open Office, etc. I messaged him asking why in the heck I would want to pay for a CD of free software. He said "I would get the benefit of a nicely packaged CD case".

Give me a break...I'm going off to report some scammers to vent. :D

The little bastard is selling the trial version you can download from here.

What a prick.Yeah, it's funny how Joe consumer can see a shrink-wrapped copy being auctioned for over $600, and another vender is selling a copy for $50 on the same page...surely they can smell a dead rat....
...can't they? :stumped:

If they don't care if it's pirated material, why don't they just go to the source (warez sites) and get the illega crap for free.

I can't believe E-Bay won't take action on clearly bogus goods, when they've been reported by more than one person.

Hopper
06-04-2008, 06:57 PM
Yup. I've reported it twice. And just the fact that it's been relisted several times AND he's got negative feedback stating it was a trial version (thus skirting the no dongle question).

And if he's selling the trial version as "software" and not just calling it a charge for shipping materials for free-ware distribution, I'd say that would be ohhhhh I dunno .. illegal.

AbnRanger
06-04-2008, 07:08 PM
I guess they think they are too small of a fish for big companies to go after...and that material from individuals will be taken more seriously.

Multiple listings of Blender for sale...that's rich!

He lists his items on ebay.ca (Canada) has his location as the U.K. and the item location as Henderson, KY.

If you choose 'Report Another Problem', then 'Listing Violations', you can report hacked software.

Well here it is ... if you're curious as to exactly "what" this idiot is trying to sell.

From eBay user tom_bot (one of the ones that got duped).
---------
Hi!
What I got from the dayton_boys is a single self-burned cd with an installation file of Newtek's LightWave 9.3 program. Also on the cd is another file called 'regkeygen.exe', which seems to me to be some sort of crack file really. No full version reg.key, no dongle and no content cd coming along with. When I received that stuff I took some time to look around in the internet and
found out that there's a lot of discussion going on about the dayton_boys and other guys like him in different forums. They seem to be well known to
Newtek and to ebay, too.

What scavengers and parasites...it's not bad enough to even posses cracked software, but then to turn around and have the marbles to try and sell it for a quick buck.
Funny how Autodesk can get Ebay to shut down a legit vendor under false premises, yet ignore low-life scoundrels that they are totally aware of!
Amazing world we live in...

I looked at his feedback page and this guy was the first one to leave negative feedback, so I just sent him a quick message and gave him my email address. I asked him "exactly" what did he receive and how it was packaged, etc...
