Hi people,

I generally use LW for architctural / landscape / set design renderings
and am starting having troubles because characters miss me too much.

I guess this thread should mainly interest people that uses LW for the same
kind of works but not necessarily…

I usually composite flat half transparent shapes of characters in PS
in 10 minutes after the 3D work is done but am realizing now this is not
enough, I need some more living people.

I could buy some Poser character library but for the few I saw of them
I'm not sure they're really good and especially if I understood correctly
they don't have any UVs…

However I need :
- characters of any type (men, women, old timers, childs), any colors,
any cloths (ehr… from the moment they have clothes!)

- no need them to have bones or whatever, it's not for animation but
only for stills

- BUT I'm interested by the following attitudes : walking (mainly), standing
or sitting, (running why not?), playing on the ground (for childs this would be
a must) etc.

- ready surfaces (mean don't care about finished textures, maps etc. but
need that the surfaces are separated)… and of course UVs would be great !

- these characters should be rendered at a min. distance of 5 or 6 meters from
the camera (so I don't need high detailled faces)

In exchange I can offer (almost) any kinds of trees or bushes,
mean I have some of them ready-made but can also make them on demand…

PS : no emmergency in this request, but if some are interested let's get in touch :)

PS 2 : some examples of my last works so that you make your opinion on the
kind of people I could need and the level of realism (that is not too high)

you should check out the free model packs over at 3dfestival.com, you should find a few good characters in there. All high quality models, in many formats including .lwo.

I don't remember if there were any "realistic" models or not, but it is worth a look.

actually they are very good models, many of them made by newteks own proton. 4 or 5 model packs were made, no crappy tessalated models as you have probrobly seen elsewhere. Also many good tutorials, and of course there forum is cgtalk.com, definetly one of the best lw forums there.

in fact searching the cgtalk forums may be fastes way to find the links not sure if they are buried at 3dfestival.

Recently I've seen some free rigs in the LW section of CG Talk, which are worth getting a hold of. But your only interested in Stills right.

3dfestival does'nt seem to exist in itself,
it redirected me to cgnetworks…

the fact is as I was guessing it he models available
there looks interesting but are only science-fiction characters,
as well as models of 3Dtotal.com…

ok i new there were more than 3 model packs, and cgtalk was best way to fing them with a search. :D

6 packs here (http://www.cgnetworks.com/story_custom.php?story_id=1115&page=)

check it out looks like pack 5, and 6 may have a "normal" looking human model. Not sure I am a 56k user so could never download any of them.

hope this helps, and riki is right try searching for give aways in the lw forum at cgtalk, every so often something pops up over there.

no realism but an interesting graphic style…

(specs : a tree I modeled few days ago : trunks and branchs
have UV though I just textured with procedural, leaves
have also an UV and I enclosed the .png for clipmapping.
Trunk+ branch are available in "low" freezed version - QEM LOSS 3
that keeps UVs -and in subpatch)

thanks lasco for the freebie, interesting little tree. Best for putting far from camera I would think. Sorry I couldn't help more, but all my characters are less than realistic, mostly toony type.

for your purposes you would probably be better off buying a cd from one of the above mentioned sites. let us know if you find any good give aways, since there are quite a few people in your same line of work who must need the same type of people.

Sure the tree's better not to close to the camera and that anyway will never
have a photo-realistic looking. Though if you play good with very contrasted texturing on luminosity / diffuse channels of the leaves you can avoid the
"1 poly for 6 leaves" effect you see.

Example on the images I recently made (link in previous essage) it's the same tree in the street, quite close to the camera…
again I don't intend it to be realist but guess the texture can produce nice effects…

For the characters well i'd buy a cd with no problem if was sure the models
are really cool and must admit for the moment only the series of
people for people seems okay for me… but unfortunately I'm not sure this
editor still exist (I mailed them this morning and recieve a mail-failure = the mail
does'nt exist anymore !)
Quite few people in my same line of work ? Well noot so sure of this,
it at least concern all the people who works in architecture / landscape
(hey that makes me think I should ask to Ingo how he solves this question)
