Hey all,
Just wanted to share that today I graduated from a Masters in Architecture at Yale University, my second Masters degree. This concludes a three year period in the US and I'll be moving back to the Netherlands soon!

My lack of community involvement as of late was largely due to this, and I'll redouble my efforts soon, with tutorials, guides and free resources coming up. In the Netherlands I'll be more involved with the real-life community and plan to set up 3D workshops and gatherings.

Aurora, I know you're in the same boat, I hope everything is going well with you.

Cheers! :boogiedow

Coolio... congrats on the success. Looking forward to more community stuff from you too. Hadn't noticed any lacking participation, but if you say so, i look forward to it coming back! :)

Is an architect degree 7 years everywhere else in the world or is that just here in the UK?

Thanks everyone!

for anyone who has never seen a US school ceremony: it all looks very much like Harry Potter. Weird broom sticks and all. Photos attached, check out that guy's staff.

I was dressed in a magician's robe with weird hat and racing stripes on the side. And so was Paul McCartney. Yes. Him. He was graduating with us for an honorary degree in music.

It's enough to make me feel thoroughly inadequate and lazy... Other than the fact that I am a man who is thoroughly inadequate and lazy.

Well done. :beerchug:

Congrats Tom. So what is school for architecture like? Is it any paper and pencil anymore or is it all CAD? I took drafting in high school because I used to think I wanted to go into that but then went to art school instead.

i love the graduation ceremony, pomp and pompousness notwithstanding. it's corny, easy fun and a very nice tip of the hat for a job well done. hope you enjoyed yours!

I was out doing some um... alcohol research! :)

Is it any paper and pencil anymore or is it all CAD? I took drafting in high school because I used to think I wanted to go into that but then went to art school instead.

It depends on the school but here there is still a fair bit of hand drawing. Nothing like conceptual drawing with pen and paper. It just doesn't work well on a computer, and doesn't communicate very well. We're no doing ink and vellum anymore though.

PS I'm not in the photo, I took it :)

Well since the Master of Arch degree is so long, we get to wear the doctorate gown on graduation. And that's all you're really doing it for isn't it?

I might go for a masters of earning-some-money-instead-of-spending-it. :D

and it's about time to get back to the community, you know these projects won't model, surface and render themselves.

well done:thumbsup:....aaahh don't you just love long architectural courses...Nope!...so why then after 5 years of study am I thinking of going back to uni to do a masters in architecture and digital design systems at London Met...Looks like an interesting course, quite hard core digital...I'm bored with the real world...is 32 too old to go back to Uni!?

I don't think so. A good quarter of our class was about that age.
Pick a good school that really suits you. Wasting your time on bad architecture criticism is not worth the frustration :)
