View Full Version : Displacement/Normal map rendering...noob questions

Hello all,
I think Im starting to get the hang of this finally, but I cant seem to get the very fine detail to render.
Ive created a highly detailed model in zbrush and exported the model, uv, displacement and normal map to lightwave.

What Ive found is that when I apply the displacement map, I have to crank the multiply nodes up to 80-130% for a decent amount of the detail to show...but this also inflates and blows out the larger detail because of the increased multiplication.
Also, in the surface editor for the normal map setup, am I going overboard haveing the MipMap quality to high, strength to 2.5 and the amplitude to 1.85%? Any higher and layout says it ran out of memory and crashes 8~
I *needed* those high of settings to try and bring out some of the finer detail, but I think Im going abouts this wrong. (I did not create a bump map for this model)

Still new at this process so and comments would be wonderful! :D

Unless you want a large amount of polys you may want to rely more on the normal map for the finer details.
