View Full Version : Cinemark First Look "Wavy Tiles"

I've began a lil project to see if I can replicate those nifty wavy tiles in the the Cinemark bit at the theatres. I've managed to set up a single tile using cloth effects against a sinusoidal washboard as a collision object (tilted at an angle). It works fine........ but, to keep the proper spacing between the tiles it looks like I need to use a proxy obect where the tiles are actually connected so they maintain proper distance between themselves.

This is where it gets icky. My scene requires a 10 by 12 grid of these tiles, and that ends up being a boatload of calculation.

If bones could be set up ito respond to cloth effects, I then could just use their motion to drive my tiles. Other than that, I can't see any way around a 2 day calculation spree.

Any thoughts?

I think displacement maps are the way to go now. quicker and cleaner.

Now I just need to find a way to turn a gradient slightly off-axis.
