The last information I had was that it was slated for release in the next week or so. Pricing is still in discussion with his reseller. The plugins are LScript-based, making them portable across platforms (yay!).

The implementation uses textured displacement for terrain following, so sculpted landscapes will not work with it.

Pre-positioned wheels in Modeler mean that you will need to use the offset controls. The recommended approach is to position the wheels in Layout.

I'm keen to see this - I'm hoping the pricepoint is reasonable.

Guys did you see what those crazy russians developed? An automatic traffic generator for max. Check this out (google translation):

Yep, but you can render a Y gradient and displace a plane to match your original ground. Workaround but it works. Sticky is wayyy slow...

You can now set pivot in both modeler and layout or leave it to origin. What suits you best :)

Absolutely great!

I aggree with tyrot, a beta prerelease, that could be available with a preorder beta promotion, would be nice. :D
If possible and not too complicate.

Does this work on a big scale? For example, if somebody wants to recreate a race track, You'll end up with a terrain covering several square miles. That would mean pretty huge texture maps...

that max plugin is insane. I want that one for lightwave! However the car rigging tool is also cool. Can't wait to try it out!!!

I'm wondering if Bugz could get us halfway there. The vehicles could easily avoid each other and some complex motions on a 2D plane could be made I think.

One problem with Bugz might be keeping the "cars" in their own lanes!

BTW, count me in as another person dying to get his hands on this new Vehicle Rigger. :)

I've tested a 2500*1500 map, worked fine. But remember, VR just copies the displacement info. So after rigging you can delete or swap the ground to whatever.
You can also just have a null with displacement when rigging, works fine.

You can animate very simple traffic by using w_throttle (It wasnt created for grid type traffic so beware...) Created a small video (http://www.vimeo.com/1002000). Nothing like the crazy russian thing but might be usefull for some situations.

This looks really good.

As a side note I'm in the process of some R&D for a car rig tutorial which will be available soon.. (http://www.spinquad.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22115) It won't be as interactive, but it will allow for the user to animate as he/she wants, giving them full control..

This plugin looks fantastic. It's been a long time ago but I toyed with the idea of automating the vehicle rigging process after developing a similar rig.

The setup is freely available here:
vehicle_setup.zip (http://onthez.com/temphosting/vehicle_setup.zip)

and an example of it's use here:
Example (http://onthez.com/animation/HummerRace2005-Large.wmv)

It's not as full featured but for 4 wheeled vehicles it's served me well a few times.
