Hello,

This (http://www.lightwiki.com/Tone_Mapping) is a nodal tone mapping technique for previewing purposes within LW.

Some HDRI tonemapped with this method:

Hope to see some tests with this nodal setup :)

Gerardo,

I came across your fine article in HDRI 3d magazine and your tutorial on tone mapping both on the same day: today.

Thanks for you efforts and for posting. I am quite surprised that no one else has responding to this thread (as of yet).

Got to admit that you cover aspects of use of LW that I haven't used. I promise that I will try to learn (and understand) the techniques you describe. I would think that they are truly relevant to getting the best render output from LW. Yes, I have exrtrader and fusion 5.1 also.

Riff_Masteroff, glad to hear you have read those articles. Hope they help :)

About tone mapping correction, this is useful only when we work with real light contrast ratios. Don't know if not much people find useful a tone mapping solution within LW or maybe it's because I've mistaken the link above (it was the old tonemapping tutorial, sorry). This link:

http://www.lightwiki.com/Nodal_Tone_Mapping is the new nodal technique.

If you want to try it, you gonna need the Image Filter Node Editor of Denis Pontonnier (http://pagesperso-orange.fr/dpont/plugins/nodes/nodes/Node_Editors.html#NodeImgFilt), Tim "Aurora" Dunn's Gamma Correction (http://www.auroragrafx.com/LW_Plugins/gammacnode.zip), Michael Wolf's Simple Colour Corrector (http://www.db-w.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,84/func,fileinfo/id,46/), and the SG_CCFilter (http://www2.informatik.hu-berlin.de/~goetsch/CCTools/).

Just to let you know I've updated the lightwiki tutorial with a simpler log tone mapping approach. Results are not as good as with the first nodal tone mapping method (log+local), but it's simpler to set up and use.

Hope to see some tests renders with this one as well :)

Thank you for the new tutorial Gerardo, the drive into the nodal method is quite useful. :D
Quite appreciate as those in the HDRI 3D magazine!

By the way, the link to the SG_CCTools need a correction.
