View Full Version : Image viewer in Modeler Workaround Tip

Although I wish this was built in (submitted a request already :) ), here is a simple trick to get an image reference inside Modeler.

At home, I got a dual monitor setup so I usually have an image viewer like xnview or irfanview on the other monitor while i model on the other modeler. On the road however, I only have my notebook and screen realstate is very limited. So I do this trick to help me out.

on the viewport panel that want to act as an image holder, change it to UV Texture
press D in modeler to open up the Display Options
switch to the Viewports tab and make sure your image viewport is selected
tick on Independent Center, Independent Zoom and Independent Zoom
tick off Show Grid
switch to the Backdrop tab and make sure your image viewport is selected
increase the Image Resolution to your preference, (larger is better)
close the Display Options

The next part requires a simple image editor that will let you resize your image's canvas. I believe the free XNView will let you do this.

open the image you want to use as reference
resize the canvas to be a perfect square
remember to match the side with the highest resolution (i.e. 640X480 would be 640X640)
save and close editor
back at modeler load the image through the UV Texture window panel that you customized as a background.

And there you have it, a zoom-able and pan-able image reference window in Modeler.

Hope it helps. :)
