Hello!
I have two objects. First one is a highpoly object and second is low poly. I want make a geometry normal map of highpoly objects and after it use this normal map on low poly object in Engine. My question is how to make geometry normal map in Lightwave ??

Normal maps in LW use the texture function applied to mesh displacement. I don't think you can go the other way if that is what you are asking.

Take a look at this thread (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83005), which appears to be about the same subject.

Well taking a quick look at zapper's reference it appears as if there is some kind of plugin. :)

Slightly OT, but there's also the excellent CrazyBump (http://www.crazybump.com/) application, which enables you to easily generate normal maps (plus Displacement, Occlusion, Specularity, and Diffuse maps) from images.

And then there is Microwave from Evasion.

Pricey ($500) but good.

Hmmm, but CrazyBump is free (well, at least whilst it's still under development).

What about Denis Pontonnier's "Normal Cast Node (http://pagesperso-orange.fr/dpont/plugins/nodes/nodes/NormalCast.html#NormalCast)"?

Description :
-A Normal Cast Node plugin for baking normal from hi-res mesh,
to low-res mesh in "Object" or "Tangent" space.

Seems to be exactly what you want, or not?

CrazyBump is great. But it does a different job. AFAIK it makes a normal map from an image, while Microwave "bakes" a normal map from a high poly model, which I believe was what the thread starter was asking for?.

Any reason to use Microwave instead of Lightwave and Dpont's free plugin I mentioned above?

Well, just shows that I was 100% ignorant about Microwave's functionality!

Dpont's free plugin seems to fit the bill and saves $500!

Yes, it looks like DPonts node should do the same job, for free ? :)
