Hi guys,
When is LW 9.5 coming out and how much is the upgrade? (I currently run 9.0)

Hey Sean -

It's out .. when the beta's over!

Join the beta and use it now!

Upgrade is free. :)

What archijam said plus how come you are still running LW 9.0 rather than LW 9.3.1 (which is also a free downloadable upgrade) ?

Because I don't like to upgrade at every increment. It seems too desperate. Plus, I like 5's. :D

ps when is the beta not going to be beta?

You'll know when the rest of us do. From what I remember, the last beta took more than four months.

If you don't like betas, you should anyway go for 9.3.1
For the GI speed alone, it's more than worth installing.

Not to mention that 9.3.1 is a Universal Binary, and will fly on a Mac Pro compared to 9.0.

ps when is the beta not going to be beta?I don't think anyone, including Newtek, know the answer to that one. A bit like asking 'How long is a piece of string'

I am generally of the same mind-I hate installing incremental updates but LW 9.0 (some nice additions aside,) was really just a stepping stone to get to 9.2

It's well worth a bit of hassle to get what 9.3.1 offers. Honestly :)

ok guys,

I downloaded 9.3.1.

But where are my presets, the entire window is blank?

Press "d"
Change the preset path to where your presets are.
Should update immediately.

Sean, create a unique directory out of the default directory for all of your presets, objects, scenes etc etc, that way every time you upgrade, you can simply point it to that unique directory.

I have my folder setup as C:/_Lightwave/ ( everything is here )

so its not hidden in the C:/Program files/Newtek/Lightwave/ etc etc.

so when you will upgrade to 9.5, you can tell LW by pressing "d" as UnCommonGrafx has stated to go to that folder and always have your stuff available.

Ugghh......sorry, I'm a bit lost. Not that up on the innards of Lightwave. Can you please tell me step by step what to do?

Basically I hit 'd' and it brought up the preferences window, then I hit the 'paths' tab, but then I scratched my head in bewilderment.

In the Paths section of the properties window, you should see "Presets" about halfway down (rendering right now, so I'm not sure exactly where it is - if I'm not mistaken, it's the only one not filled in by default). You can navigate to your presets folder from there or simply type the directory into the space provided. I've found recently that using a separate presets folder from the one provided by newtek works best for custom presets - as of 9.2, I think, LightWave will check both the default path and the one you set in the Paths tab, thereby allowing you to keep both the default presets and your personal presets without any muss or fuss.

Thanks Maxx, much appreciated!

No problem - now that my render is finished, Presets is the first option in the third "block" of paths on that tab.

I can't seem to find a link to that....

starblazex - send an e-mail to NewTek customer service. Marvin (I think - it might have been BeeVee or someone else, even) has mentioned that if your product download registration information is different from the forum information, e-mail-wise, they may have some trouble connecting the two and unlocking the forums, even after you've registered.
