I wonder if DARPA will make sure that Asimov's Three Rules are implemented in a wartime robot?

Joel, that's a great question. I think it's safe to assume that, of course, they will not be using rules for robots in the near future.

They want to use robots to kill humans. Robots will want to kill us when they become sentient anyhow.

So let's preemptively destroy the robots!!!

Or, we can wait until the future, and then someone back in time to foil the plot of the robot lovers whom are unknowingly plotting our downfall....

Wait, this sounds familiar.

You know... that plot... that... just... man, that would make a GREAT movie!

Yeah, and I suppose you're going to want a very famous actor to play one of the sentinent robots. One who of course, has some political aspirations.

Yeah right, like that'll happen.

That robot is creepy, is what it is. It's so natural. Looks like some deformed dog slipping around.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I guess you're right... It sounds ludicrous. A real pipe dream... Oh well.

So, that robot is pretty freaky looking. I wonder if something like that will be employed for off world exploration.

Ronald Reagan seems a touch old for the role.

That's a good idea but I'd hazard a wild guess that the problem there is reliability. I would bet a LOT could go wrong with a four-legged multi-jointed creature (as opposed to merely a six-wheeled lander). But wouldn't that be so cool? Pity the poor scavenging aliens who crawl out of their huts one day to find a metal dog running circles around them.

By the way: is this thing remote controlled, or can it scan the environment and find it's way around?

Was wondering that myself but by the fact that it can recover it's own balance, I'm sure it has some sort of built in obstacle avoidance. It should for 120 million.

Yeah, but I think it might still be somewhat remote controlled...

Definitely on with the reliability. I wonder how future iterations of the machine will be as far as balance, speed, etc., is concerned.

I assume it's partially controlled as far as heading is concerned. Certainly, like HR said, it must have scanners for obstacles and terrain.

It's pretty cool, but I really don't like those legs, lol.

I imagine that, in the future, people will be riding larger horse sized versions of the machine for transportation. :)

I'd say so too from the last shots where it's hooked up in the lab, but you only need to see any of those ridiculous SWAT reality TV shows a few times to realize how fat, middle-aged and "unfit" those Donkeys really are and so maybe there's another Donkey?

Oh great. I live right by High Park. The place is swarming with joggers in spandex. Now I'll be afraid to leave the house.
