This is just unbelievable! I never thought they would port this to LightWave, looks like they've FINALLY seen the Light(Wave)!

FPrime / Kray / Maxwell / FRYRender have some serious competition!

This is just too much to take in!

Read more about it here, their server must be taking a hammering, it's pretty busy so keep trying, took me a while to get there!

Some screen grabs from their website:

Nice joke!

Oh I love a good joke and this one's pretty good. :D

But you know what you did wrong - what tipped me off immediately and prevented me from clicking the link....

In your web page image, it says it will be released for LW 9.5, but your screen grab shows you "using" it in LW 9.3.1. ;)

Today's been wild at my office.

Messages left for people telling them to call Mr. Behr at 666-2406 (...the zoo), cell phones hidden in the ceiling tiles, rulers encased in Jello molds...it's not ending either.

Hmmm...

Well, perhaps one day NT will create L-Ray and it will be the envy of all render engines everywhere and everyone will stand in line waiting for...

Ok, maybe not. ;)

BTW: GI in LW become better and better each day, and LW community may forget Vray in the next days…

Which LW user is going to pay 800 euro+ for Vray render when we have the LW render engine and Kray for a fraction of that price?

I don't think Vray is that special. It has the same issues LW and KRay are struggling with. It's by no means a magical superhero render engine. Its good, but not special-good.

Matt
04-01-2008, 06:00 PM
To be honest I'm bigging it up here, but I personally have no real hankering for it at all, LW9.5 is proving VERY capable on the GI front, lest we forget!

However, some DO see this as a reason to chose one package over another, and LW won't be in that list sadly.

:agree:
Agreed. The more makers of 3rd party utilities, render engines, whatever, which support LW, the stronger LW is in the market as a competitor.

Not that it matters any though, since everyone's going to be using Blender before too long. ;)

Hehe, there's also the 2008 copyright in the "About" dialog, while a "new" product would show a 2011 copyright. Still, nice work.

Having used both, I think Kray competes extremely well with Vray in many areas. I do wish Kray offered more "physical" and specialized materials similar to Vray's, though, as that's an area where Vray has definitely outpaced Kray. Another big benefit of Vray is the wide and deep libraries of "physically-accurate" real-world materials (such as ArchShaders), which can be a real time-saving investment. A lot of the "ease of use" cited for Vray is really due to the wide availability of material libraries -- but that doesn't make the time saved any less real or valuable to users.

IMO, the Kray guys need to add both more specialized materal support, and need to commission quality material libraries (that they can then charge for as well) using both existing and new material feature support, to better compete with Vray. I believe their focusing so tightly on the render engine itself is starting to work against Kray's competitiveness, instead of aiding it.
