There is a problem with Catmull-Clark, where if you mirror geometry that has Edge Sharpness applied, the mirrored geometry becomes mangled.

Please tell me that somebody has come up with a fix or work-around for this one.

Long standing bug with Catmull-Clark subdiv's. Unfortunately, the only work-around is to wait to apply edge weighting until you're done modeling or check out Sensei's website - I do believe he's got a commercial plug-in that can allow mirroring, cutting, etc of edge-weighted CC sub-d's. Hopefully this will be squashed this round of updates or very soon.

Hi Maxx,

Thank you for the information. I will use your work around for now. This is a disappointing bug. The Edge Sharpness is such a usefully tool.

I found a work around for this ages ago and posted it on spinquad.
It works consistently but in certain situations you may wish to wait till after to apply EW.

1. Half a model with CC edge weights...
2. Mirror
3. Oh my its fooked up!
4. Select half that is screwed
5. Flip
6. Set surface to double sided.
7. Rejoice.

the end

It appears that it is an easy bug to fix... hint hint NT.
I believe you could even write a script to fix the weight map....

I would probably mirror before applying subpatch.

+ Afterwards you could make it single sided nodally with 2 different surfaces. If needed.

is there a fix for that bug?
the Catmull-Clark + Edge sharpness is a powerful tool and its a shame that it can't be used...
Has Newtek issued a fix for that bug?
