I was wondering cause I would like to make a Mod using lightwave for Valves Half-Life 2. but I didnt see any options to export to an SMD or VTF file format. is there any up to date plugins for this?

Right now, only way to really do it is export it and bring it into XSI Mod tool and such and export from there. Unless there is a plug I'm not aware of.

Yeah, you definitely want to try the XSI MOD TOOL (http://www.softimage.com/products/modtool/). It's completely free, is a kick-butt program and seems tailor made for half-Life 2 modding.
It even comes with a long video tutorial showing all the steps necessary to get a model into HL2.
You can make your models in LW and load them into XSI mod tool to do it.
It's more or less the full version of XSI Essentials (or whatever it's called), with only a few minor restrictions and a few features left out. Not a demo.

Wow, how did I not know about this? I've got to go tell my son (13 years), he is gonna love this thing.

there's been a plugin for lightwave out for a long time now.

Mod tool should be easier to export from though, considering Valve used XSI in the first place and have exporters made for XSI mod tool. Rigging looks easier too.
