I've just started the excellent car modelling tutorial, i wanted to start a thread to see if anyone else is having a go as well, so that we can share tips etc. I'm a new user so it'll be a great opportunity to learn a new technique.

:p Enjoying this tutorial!

Just started it and 2 hours in i've nearly finished the 1st part.

It's just getting the light socket right, i'm having trouble rotating on the y to get the base of the light to sit right. I've kind of sorted it though.

The Fender (or Wing in the UK), is also a bit funny, at the top point but as a first attempt i'm getting there!!

;) Cheers, the lights are funny at the front, shall add more weighting to get them sharper, the z350 is full of sharp corners even though it's a smooth car!!

Shall crack on with it this week.

I'm not sure I could get that far in a couple of hours...mind you, I'd like to *get* a couple of hours in LW at the moment ;)

Honestly a couple of hours and that's it for the week, maybe get chance this coming Sunday but i'm pressed for time as well :(

As a hobbyist i can't wait for the winter in the UK so i haven't an excuse to go out!!!!

I enjoy this tutorial - one of the best on cars I have seen. Makes a lot of sense, but as I progress I can see some ugly creases where points were welded (e.g. from the headlight polys to fender I assume - the first culprit). Here's a pic and how do you secure such a smooth surface? BTWGood idea with this post, Yorkie.

Hello Stef,

You have the same problem as me, the crease occurs because your have 4 polygons coming off 1 point.

i.e. You've got one point at the top of the fender. Send us a wireframe view instead.

I just keep double checking the tutorial against what i have got, i've even printed it out.

Oh and search on www.google.co.uk for Z350 within there image finder and look at the front headlight, mines wrong, it's a lot sharper on the bumper.

Keep going though looks cool. I can send you an object from my z350 if you want to see if we are on the same road (so too speak!!).

As for the smoothness, check double sided, and i'll have to look up my settings for you ;)

Thanks very much for the hints. It is hartening to know Highway Patrol is nearby to help you on the road...
Attached is the image. I probably will start from scratch again, but each time I come to connect headline w/fender - the same thing happens and also some smaller creases on the fender/door side. Disheartening, as seeing it I am frozen and don't go further since the final look will be compromised. Admire your art...

Solid start though Stef!! :D

Looks like you not following the side or front view correctly, your points look too low on the bonnet, this may sort out your crease.

If your still having problems then i will send you the same point so you can load it into a different layer and note the differences.

I shall tackle the wheel tonight i think just to give me a break from the bodyshell.

No worries i've sent you a mail ;) Ooh as in point i meant stage or step or place in time not a point or a point x 3 = polygon. I've opened a lager so it's easy to confuse myself and others.

But it's FRIDAY Tomorrow, one more day and then it's the Weekend!!!!
