I tied the chimp. But then, what else does a chimp have to do but stupid lab tests?

Not a test for visually impaired, I guess.. As the numbers are on the screen for just a fraction of a second, well, you have to see the numbers before you can remember them... :)

yea it is somethin about memory you see numbers for a moment and than it should stay in your visual memory... just like when you burn out tv scren and turn it off u can still see image until it vanish...

My best was 8, but I moonlight as a lab chimp after hours so I was expecting better.

I'm a code monkey, so I guess that counts. Best is 8 so far, but it sure is more fun to click the circle than the refresh button!

It's fun, and I beat the chimp every time, but this isn't really a case of being 'smart' in any way (e.g. problem solving)

Stupid chimp! I hate chimps... :D

You read about those Russian chess masters who can keep track of multiple games while blind folded. They can't remember a phone number any better than the next guy.

Part of it is what you train your memory to do.

Let me see that chimp model something in Lightwave :)

Tied the chimp.

It's actually not that hard to do this task but it takes practice. When I was working as an MRI researcher at a hospital, we used to have two screens. One had about 6 or 7 numbers that I had to type on the computer connected to the other screen (which controls the MRI system). I played a little game where I'd just glance at the screen quickly and then type the settings in without looking back. I got pretty fast at it - eventually my glance was about as short as they showed the numbers in this experiment and I never got any wrong. It took about two or three weeks doing it several times a day. I can consistently get 8 or 9 correct on this test now. I'm sure with practice anyone can do much better.

that's the point of this test.... it is only about patience .... if people all low tolerance they wont be able to score high.... but every1 can do this

I got p0wnd by the chimp allright. Then again, I don't seem to have the patience of a chimp either ;)

Either that or bananas just don't work as an incentive... :stumped:

Cheers,
Mike

The ability to memorize things quickly is not typically considered intelligence, as such. It's a useful skill to have, no doubt, but it's not quite the same thing.
