What do people think would be better for running Lightwave on Vista 64.

A. Two 8800 GTS with 320 Mb Vram in SLI
or
B. One 8800 GT with 1 Gb Vram

I also will be using the PC for gaming as my main interest in 3D modeling is game orientated and I like to see how others construct in game models and textures. But Lightwave is by far the most important reason for this PC build.

Further info is that I am running a quad core with 8Gb DDR2 and a pair of drives in Raid 0 config. Vista is 64bit Home Premium.

Many thanks in advance.
Fal.

Doesn't SLI only work in full screen mode, which makes it useless for LW (and other 3d packages..) ?

Correct. SLI does nothing for LW, but it does for games and other full screen apps.

Always the less complicated. SLI is another potential bug, if you can get similar performance with a less complicated solution, go that route.

So, use one (more powerful) graphics card.

I'd wait and see what the 98xx series is like :P

I'm happy with my HD3870x2.... CrossfireX allows multiple monitors. :P Mwahahahaha. Going to get a second one soon too.

And as far as Nvidia, if you are mainly going to be LWing, single card solution is the only way to go as it has been stated before.

I have a Palit 8800 GT 1GB running Vista 64... It's not life-changing.
Especially if gaming is your thing, go with the (2) 8800 GTS 512 in SLI.

If there would be two 512MB cards that would be a bit harder to choose from, but with those two options I'd definitely go with the single 512MB GT.
