For the love of god and everything that is holy, PLEASE release the hounds!!!!
9.5.... I need it like David Hasselhoff needs acting lessons, like Brittney Spears needs a drink, like New York governor Spitzer need $5,000 dollars and a holiday inn, like.....well you get the point.

Is David Hasselhoff really a bad actor?

I thought it was damn good the way he talked to that car (and it talked back), very convincing indeed. It made me want a Knight Rider car, put it that way. But anyway, even if he was a bad actor, you got to give the guy some credit...

Don't quite know how to say this but I think I might be a closet Hasselhoff fan

After that 007 type track, I continued to search YouTube and came across some really good stuff actually. This one I just found freakin' awesome - real 80's synth music - he's even got a YAMAHA DX7 (that deserves respect in my book). I'm just wondering if he's got more stuff like that 'cause if he has then I'm already a fan - I'll order the CD tomorrow!!!

Seriously, check this one out (don't be tempted to stop it halfway either - it's worth the listen - whack up the bass and volume).

I guess mediocre or generic is the best words to describe his music. Okay, if your video is supposed to be the Hoff at his "best", than this has to be one example of him at his worst. One of the worst music videos I've ever seen

Get ready, it's coming.

Make some space on your hard drives. LightWave v9.5 is getting very close to Open Beta launch. In a matter of days, you will be testing the
new, jealousy-inducing features of the latest free update to LightWave.

We just wanted to give you a heads-up that we are putting the final
polishes on some phenomenal new features. We want your first
experience with LightWave v9.5 to be the best Open Beta experience yet.

Stay Tuned, and until then, keep an eye right here (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80543) on the NewTek forums for even more sneak peek imagery!

Quoted from another thread, note the "In a matter of days". That was posted friday last week, we're at the end of friday this week so its now "weeks away" rather than days.

I really dont like to moan but seriously, why the hell say stuff like this when they cant hit the deadlines and can clearly see that everyone is insanely eager to get their hands on it.

Newtek mouths should be kept tightly shut in future untill the things done, uploaded to the ftp and ready to be downloaded by the end user. At that point announce it, dont annouce it then 3 weeks later still be sayings its just days away when clearly its not.

Kryos
03-14-2008, 06:44 PM
Trouble is, it's a damned if you do damned if you don't. If they keep their mouth shut, then they get just as much flak for not saying anything. It's a catch 22 with Newtek the loser either way.

Not really. Its damned if you annouce stuff at the wrong time and dont say a word when you really should be.

They annouced way WAY before it was actually ready to put out. Then made statements to say its "days away".

We then wait and the times comes when it becomes clear that we wont be seeing it, they dont say a word about it. Now is the time someone should be comming on and saying "sorry chaps we need to work out a few more things" so people can go get on with life instead of sitting on here mashing refresh.

Surely they would have known during the day that they wouldn't have it out by the end of the day so someone could have posted to say so.

There is nothing worse then being put into a state of waiting and then being given no more information when the time we expected it to happen as been reached and passed.

Either annouce it when its ready to be released or dont annouce it. Or atleast keep us REGULARLY informed as to whats happening if there are delays.

I just stuck one of his tracks through an analyser I've been working on. He's actually got a very good voice - no doubt about it. I tell you what, I wish I had a voice as full-bodied as Hasselhoff's. If I did I'd be working on an album with lyrics instead of just synth instrumentals.

Here's the track I just analysed :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvYy_RnhuzI

Look beyond the fact that he's the guy off Baywatch (and you should thank him for that aswell), play this, and tell me that's not good synth/pop or whatever you want to call it.

Anyway, YouTube is ****** quality, so here's the album when you're ready for it:
http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=281;1;-1;-1&sku=328811

Still not as bad as when I was working on a project for a big media company, and told the lead programmer to get a free encoder/decoder from ligos.com. Well he typed one letter wrong, and up came all the popups.. non stop. And we weren't in an office, or even a cube.. One big giant room...

Suffice it to say people weren't happy about it, though he remained cool and collected, slowly closing popup after popup until deciding to reboot. After asking if I meant that as a joke, I of course pointed out his typing error :)

I think NewTek should release the beta using a "demerit" system. Every time someone gripes, complains, curses, or posts a fake "9.5 is here!!" thread, they get one demerit counted against them which would count for 1 extra week they would have to wait to download the bata after it's officially released.

I've been playing with 9.5 for a week now and the new hair plug-in is pretty cool lol.

Come on, the stuff on you tube was obvestly lip synced, he's got more effects on his voice than Neal Diamond and probably syncs his live performances as well, with a enough production, even I could sing that, a little echo, chorus and harmonizer.

Anyway, if you can sound like that - seriously - I envy you. I honestly don't think he's as bad as you guy's are making out. The video's are cheesy, yes, but then you shouldn't listen with your eyes.

Close your eyes this time, forget who it is, and listen :

This track demonstrates he's a far better singer than the majority of 'wannabe' singers that get aired nowadays. I've been around a studio when there's been quite a few wannabe's, and most of the time I just cringe. It's rare for me to come across someone I've not heard before and 'not' cringe these days. Sadly, it's all about vanity nowadays, not vocal talent.

No matter what though, I'm glad he was mentioned in this thread, and if only a quarter of the album is as good as that track, it'll be one of the best albums I've bought in ages - I bet.

Short list: Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, adrian belew of King Crimson, David Sylvain, Youssou N'Dour, Fela Kuti, Leonard Cohen and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

If you broaden your musical search you'll find many talented and creative artists that don't use technology as a crutch, of course the aforementioned artists do use effects on occasion, not to cover up but to convey an emotion . and of the ones on my list that I have seen live even those effects were absent, for the most part.

I want honesty in the music I listen to.

Two of the biggest offenders of this that quickly come to mind are Janet Jackson and Britney Spears. Their vocals are so over-processed, and their songs are such overproduced, prefabricated, cookie-cutter garbage that it's ridiculous. Janet Jackson's voice has so little power that she sounds more like a backup singer than a lead vocalist.

After seeing Ozzy Osbourne live back in the mid 80's, I wondered how he ever managed to sing at all. Even with all the processing he was using, he still kinda sucked. Maybe he just had a bad night, but he also recorded alot of live albums which aren't so hot either. But I've also heard some bootlegs of his concerts where he sounded just as bad.
In the studio though, he's always been great. I mean, so far as Ozzy goes. He's still no Freddy Mercury. ;)

You get two LOL's and a  for that one.
Inigo's the only other one I've ever awarded that to, and I don't give more than one LOL out lightly. :D

I'm that funny?

Aha. It's an honor. I accept the award that I didn't know I had received.

EDIT: Pumeco would be funny if he didn't harp on this Dave guy.

If you like honesty in your music you could do worse than JCC though it probably means more if you grew up in the 70's/80's Northen UK.

Don't know of JCC? but that song is dredging up some long buried memory's that I can't identify?

(with a bit of luck the new hair and fur will be good enough to replicate my fantasticly stylish hair-do).

I got it, did a search on allmusic.com he toured with Elvis Costello in the late 70's, must be from that? he was playing high school auditoriums, I saw him at Millikan High in Long Beach Ca.

>DISENGAGING HASSELHOFF MODE
>HASSELHOFF MODE DISENGAGED

Out of all those singers you mentioned, the only one I could possibly comment on is David Bowie. I think he has a good voice as well, but in a different sort of way. I've got a few Bowie CD's in my collection but even so, they tend to be mostly because I've enjoyed a soundtrack. For some reason I always prefer his soundtracks to his regular albums. Soundracks I like of his are Labyrinth, Cat People, When the Wind Blows, and another one off a David Lynch film (Lost Highway I think it's called).

The other names you mentioned I can't comment on. As far as my taste in music goes, all I can say is that I tend to like voices for different reasons. If I wanted a voice to go with synth tracks (which is what I'm working on now), then I honestly would be more than happy if I had Hasselhoff's voice. If it was for some other reason then perhaps not - but I dunno though - I still say he's a good singer. To quote Vangelis; "If it sounds good, it is good"

It's like inigo07 said about Westernra. I'd also call her a good singer - but I certainly wouldn't want to hear her on a synth/pop track.

If I were to do what you just did and list the artists I think have real vocal talent you'd probably laugh your socks off. But the reason is deeper than just the actual tone of their voice, it's other things.

Morten Harket of A-ha for example has interesting ways of using his vocals, as does Andy Bell of Erasure. They were both knocking out stuff in the early eighties, and there's a good reason they're still doing so today (apart from the cash of course).

I'll dig up some interesting stuff on YouTube - be back later...

Nice one. Good choice of music you had back then. I saw him at a similar time in the late 70's. I didn't know he'd made it across to the US back then.

I'm still in awe! To think, "The Hoff" has been amongst us all along - totally undetected! THE HOFF!! Who's to say there aren't other major celebrities lurking in these forums undetected even as we speak! Perhaps inigo07 is actually in reality Scott Baio. Maybe hrgiger is actually Dustin Diamond, or Gary Coleman! The possibilities boggle the mind!

Interesting point that. A lot of stars wouldn't want their real name to be known on a forum for various reasons. There could well be famous people reading all this. If I only knew who they were, I'd be their friend.

@danielkaiser
Couldn't find what I wanted, but here are a few tracks I dug up for one reason, and one reason only: The vocal characteristics of each artist perfectly suit the track they're performing. Out of these three artists, there's only one that's not a singer, but even then the voice is suited.

If it sounds good...

Both of them have amazing voices with awesome ranges. Andy Bell used to be a choir boy I believe. I've always thought Cyndi Lauper had an amazing voice too. If you see her live in concert, it's very powerful and has a wide range.

Just as long as he didn't start singing an Erasure track in choir :D

As for that nerd girl, I've often thought there should be a website dedicated to sexy nerd girls.
