View Full Version : 9.5...where does that leave instancing?

It was my impression that Newtek had stated early in the Lightwave 9 cycle that instancing would be included in the LW9 development cycle.

On previous LW design cycles, the next thing after the .5 version is the next development cycle...meaning that if that holds, after LW 9.5, the next version would be LW10.

Does this mean that instancing will not be included in the LW 9 development cycle as previously promised?

Maybe not exactly. Until now, I don't remember a .3 release ever happening. Maybe a .7 or somesuch after 9.5. Only NT knows for sure. LW10 would be nice, don't get me wrong, but I'm not in any position right now or in the near future to be able to afford it.

I think there was previous version of LW that expanded further than a .5
wasnt there a LW 5.6?

There was, indeed, a LW5.6C to be exact. ;)

...actually 5.7.....though 5.7 was only for certain production studios working on starship troopers roughnecks tv show [awesome show btw]

so 9.5 does not mean the end of the 9.x line until someone at newtek states otherwise.....we coulld go to 9.8 service pak 3 ya know!
esp seeing as HOW MUCH came in 9.2 for instance [no punn intended!]

Ahh, see, I wasn't counting the versions requiring a secret handshake with rolled up trousers and one leg in the air. ;) :p

Lightwave 8.3 was released. Then 8.5, there was no 8.4???

Ahh no, development at New Tek goes so fast, that when they think they've finished a .4 release, it already is a .5 release!

Is there a link to the statements of what we were supposed to see in the 9.x cycle?

My memory can be faulty from time to time and I might not have been paying attention when development cycle plans were discussed.

Will LightWave v9 have instancing?
Instancing will be added in a later update in the v9.x cycle. We'll be making the core changes that will allow us to provide instancing immediately as our first effort after the release of v9.0. These same changes to the core operation of LightWave will fix a number of long-standing issues in the code and provide the basis for a complete change in the workflow of the application, including a variety of other long-requested capabilities such as history, parametric evaluation, scene graph and more.
