View Full Version : More than one texture?

I did a simple test render and discovered that I can't get more than one texture to work correctly in a scene.

I loaded then added the texture for earth as usual (uvmap, etc). I created a sphere in modeler, then loaded the object in layout, and went through the same process for adding a moon texture to the second sphere.

For whatever reason, the texture wont show up unless I change the format...from uvmap to planer of spherical. But the texture comes out all wrong.

Here is a pic with the moon jpg added as a uvmap (same as the earth object).

If this has already been talked about, please point me to said thread.

Thanks for your time and patience.

try naming the moon surface different than the main one

Thanks, Bytehawk.

I gave it the old college try. Was able to change the surface names, etc. Still doesn't work. For whatever reason, I can use: planer, spherical, front, etc, but when I try to use uv, it doesn't show on the second object.

The object gets darker as if it 'sees' the texture, but it wont render.

Also, I've noticed that the little window in the surface menu will not show a texture on the object under uv, but when you change the type to: planer, spherical, etc, you can see the texture on the object (window in the surface menu).

I haven't used LW since 5.6, so I'm not sure; don't remember, if it's always been this way.

rekh, umm... did you make UVs? for the uv map? it Sounds like all of your UV coords for every point in the model is set to 0,0. perhaps the uvs are mangled.

the quickest way to tell is to select the whole object and then go to a UV layout panel in modeler. If you see a grid in that view, then something else is wrong. if you see a point or nothing at all, then you probably have bad UVs.

eblu,

I'll give it a try. I'm new to LW; haven't used it since 5.6. I got re-addicted using 7.5 at a buddies house.

BUT ... one thing about LW, is that it makes sense. I could always go digging around, and manage to figure things out. This isn't making sense to me.

I think I may have found something ... perhaps. The pic I posted was originally created in 7.5. When I created a totally new scene file, I noticed something interesting.

In the older/original file, when choosing uv (in the surface editor), there is an option to choose texture in the second field. See black 'high light'

http://www.daathrekh.com/forum/earth2.jpg

This option is not present in the totally new files I have created in LW 9.3.1.

See the pics below:

http://www.daathrekh.com/forum/earth.jpg

There is no texture option to pick. None is the only option.

... same here:

note: under this new scene, I changed the names of the surface as per instruction from Bytehawk.

Could the fact that I made the original file in a different version of LW, coupled with the fact that there is no option to pic texture; after choosing uv, in the surface editor be the problem? Is this a bug, or did I do something - like delete this option, in my quest to get more than one texture in a scene?

Come on LW vets, I need help :)

there is no option to choose a uv map because the object has no uv map!
You'll need to create one. Other than that, basic stuff like this is handled quite well in the manuals!

Hmmnn... don't recall making a uvmap for the original object. But what you say makes sense.

Thanks.

all uvmaps available in your scene are visable in the uv-popup menu you showed in the screenshots, so they are not sorted by object or surface. This means you selected the uvmap of the other object....so you won't see your texture....like arsad said there is no uvmap...

good luck

Thanks, Bytehawk - on the naming piece!

Thanks, Eblu and Arsad - for the advise on getting the uv's generated!

Thanks, 3DGFXStudios for bringing home.

Got it to work:
