Permissions may be biting you. Leopard changed a bunch of things here and a number of apps needed compatibility fixes. LW might be the same :

UB LW tries to store its preferences under ~/Library/Preferences/LightWave3D

where ~ is your home folder.

If that folder doesn't exist, try creating it and see if that helps.

An additional problem might be the hub. Rename it or delete it from the UB LW folder.

I've checked and that folder does exist in place you point, deleting it cause recreation of it by LW and it exist again.

When i run Hub on it's own hub works just fine without any hang up.

This is what i get in console

I think u mis-interpreted Phil with his killing the hub suggestion. The hub has proved a right pain in the a** in the past and is always the first thing u should suspect when things are buggy.

As he suggests, rename it. Launch LW and see how it runs!

Hmmm. Repair permissions (via Disk Utility) doesn't show problems?

Are you running from the .dmg disk image, or how did you install it? Simply copy everything over from the .dmg to a folder under /Applications?

Are you running as the same user that installed the application?

Could you fire up terminal (from the utilities folder under applications) and do :

ls -l

from inside the UB LW folder? I'm wondering if the permissions are wonky. I've seen similar things when copying the UB LW folder over an SMB connection to another Mac.

About .dmg. I've copied LW folder from .dmg to applications folder as it said after running .dmg and i have only one user on this mac which is admin and that's my user (excluding any automaticaly created users in leopard instalation)

Hi guys,

Any chance it gives anyone a real crash log? If so, send it to me at either address below, and I might be of some help.

Just change the main language of Leopard from Polish to English and Layout won't crash anymore. I have had the same issue with the same MacBook model.

This is a long shot and just for info.

When attempting to open Modeller or LW by simply clicking their icons, I always got the error messages and neither would open. If I ran Hub (made shortcut on desk top) first and then opened modeller/LW it booted up fine.

Now I know this is for OSX specific problems and I was using XPhome on PC, just thought I would toss it in to see if it would help. Interestingly, I changed from Norton to AGV and now Modeller/LW opens up correctly ina matter of seconds.

Again not meaning to be off topic, just something to think about.

Hi Scarabrae

I think your problem might be related to the Windows firewall. The Hub communicates over TCP/IP on the PC, and third party firewalls can cause problems. I know our tech support guys know more about this than I do.

The Mac problem above is likely related to the language used on the host machine.

I found solution for this. It is related to other than English Language of OS X. I changed language to English and LW ran in discovery mode without crashing. I don't know is it LW bug or OS X bug.
