I think something called MDD could be used to make a field of flowers grow out of the ground, or animate a large crowd of people. I am not sure.

Now I read in the manual that MDD and it's sytem is old legacy stuff.

What should I use in it's place if I don't want to buy HD instance?

How can I create a field of growing flowers with small differences is size, rotation and growing speed?

Unfortunately the only way is to instance with HD instance. Unless you want to build all of the geometry manually, which, would be a real pain in the arse.

As for MDD, those are motion files. Which would definitely help in creating the actually plant "growing".

I don't think there is another way with out either instancing (HD Instance) or straight up geometry. Anyone feel free to jump in and correct me on that.

My first thought is to use particles and link the flower object to the particles and use a morph to show the growth of the flowers. The particle setup will allow for random rotation and size. Growth speed would not be random though.

couldnt you drive the morph with a texture?
