View Full Version : new to LW with modeling question (edges)

hey, just got LW a week ago, and am new to 3D, but seems like everyone here is extremely helpful to beginners. I'm working on a fountain pen, which has a hexagon shape for the body. I used the rounder tool on the top, but realized that the edges of the hexagon are perfectly sharp, and I want to make them ever so slightly round, just for realism. the problem is that I can't figure out how. I tried bevel, but the edge would still be there and edge bevel doesn't seem to work as well. I also tried to scale each side horizontally, but again, the edge still remails. I'm sure there is a simple method that I'm overlooking. anyway, enclosed is a shot of the model if anyone has some advice. thanks in advance, and again, great forum!

Select the sharp edges with the edge selection and use edge bevel and you will get a little bevel on the edges that will make it feel a bit less sharp.

You may need to add geometry to the bottom of those edges so edge bevel and rounder will work on them. Then you delete the additional geometry.

If the bottom of it is solid already it shout work as Ztreem pointed out.

Little warning also, rounder is a little bit fickle in certain conditions, adding extra geometry often solves this but it can be prone to crashing Lightwave. So before you use rounder id suggest you always save the object just before using it.
