hey guys im trying to figure out the best way do this in sub-patch:
54806

when i show you the wire frame you can see the classic "5 point star" right on the corner where i dont want it:
54805

when i hit tab, as you would expect i get a nasty pinch here:
54807

I have experimented and made a better edge loop here:
54808

But as you can see it still pinches:
54809

so my question is, what is the optimum geometry for this case?

Freeze the mesh and see if the pinching is still visible. You cant always rely on the opengl view.

no the pinch is even more obvious when frozen and rendered.

I cover how to do those corners with subd in some of my videos. Check out the third lightwave video (actually first few might help)... link in my sig. hope this helps!

see this pic for a better way of handling the topology in those corners...

thanks for the example but i came up with that geometry already and it didnt work out for me:
54813
i think this is the same as your eg.?
but when i sub-divide i get this:
54814

problem was after i merged polys (or dissoled edges) lightwave still left the points alone. doh! after maunally deleting the extra points it all worked well.
how many more lightwave quirks (or is it bugs? you tell me?) will have me tearing my hair out? why does it delete the points when you select an edge loop and not when you select 1 edge? AAAARRRRGGGHH! :bangwall:

yeah, it's always safest to check the polygon stats menu for stray points, edges, etc... glad it worked
