I'm trying to make a photo-real basketball. I've run searches here and on the SpinQuad board, and come back with several results that include basketballs, but no explanation as to how the bump was achieved. I've tried using Crust Node, RMan's Collection 3D Cells texture Node, Crumple, as well as a couple other procedurals that I can't think of right now, but the render just doesn't look right. The seams I've got down - it's the "nibs" (for lack of a better term (they provide the grip)) that I can't get to look right. Any ideas or images or tutorials or suggestions?

Steve Worley wrote a C program which was included in the first version of
"Texturing and Modeling: A Procedural Approach", that creates a basketball
bump map image. The resulting image can be applied as a bump texture on a
3D ball using spherical mapping. I've still got a tiff image on my web
site that was created using Steve's program.
