View Full Version : Rendering a space scene to a skybox.

I'm using Lightwave 9 to create a space skybox for a game I'm working on. I've been using this tutorial:


This tutorial gives good results but not when rendered to a skybox, here is the reason.

The single-point-polygons are rendered by pixel rather than by distance. So towards the edges of each side of the skybox the starts start to get smaller. This really outlines the cubic nature of the skybox and makes it look really fake.

So I was wondering if there is a way to render SPPs not by pixel but by distance, or something similar. Or if there are any other tutorials or tips on rendering a space scene that can be rendered to a skybox...

There are several options - if you will do this as lot, the 'hyperstars' plugin is GREAT value, and will give excellent results.

See my downloads for an alternative 'stars' object. (Link below)

You may also find that for stylised stars you can get good results with a very large number of small lens flares.
