Ok... I'll save the rant about the LW manuals, and just ask:

How do you assign material or object IDs so they can be exported out via the RLA Export Plugin and manipulated in After Effects 5.5 Prod Bundle?

Any help would be much appreciated here...

To start with, which RLA plug-in are you using? There are a few of them, after all.

What I did as a quick test:

I used the RLA Extended Export, with default settings (Image Process tab, Image Filter).

Rendered, imported to AE. Chose DOF.

With the effect selected, used the Info panel to find depth of individual objects, used those numbers for testing of functionality. You have to tweak the various settings to get it to work, but it worked fine for me.

I'm using the LW standard RLA export. I ran across a brief explanation on the web for extracting an ID Matte in AE, which worked, except that the object edges were very rough. Is there an interface for assigning object/materials IDs, or is it arbitrary?
