there was a development for LW here:

anybody knows what did happen to it?

Well, I think Kevin still updates it when it gets a chance, the plugin worked well for a rigid body domino test i did in LW a while back. It shows how fast and realtime in OGL the dynamics in LW should work... :)

However the biggest drawback with ODE, from my understanding is A) PhysX is faster and more advanced for many things (collisions for example). B) It only supports basic primitives such as box, capsule, cylinder etc.... Convex Hull or Trimesh were still not implemented, this is not a limitation of Kevin's LW plugin, but of ODE in general. (The latter tends to be a little bit of a pain for myself) But it's still pretty cool none the less.

RedBull is pretty much on the money. The version of ODE that was available when I started ODEfL did not support trimesh-trimesh collisions, but the most recent releases do (I guess now it is a limitation of my plug-in). I make no promises on a time table, but I will work on it again very soon.

Cheers,

Kevin, have you ever taken a look at http://www.continuousphysics.com/Bullet/
?

Seems like a promising engine aswell, and it comes with vehicle support aswell, something a lot LW users (or VFX user in general) keep asking about.

Hi Red_Oddity,

I had read about ODE/Bullet integration in the past, but had not really looked at the library until today. Bullet seems quite similar to ODE at first glance, for example both ODE and Bullet can use GIMPACT for trimesh collisions. At some point I'd love for both libraries to be available in the plug-in (at which point a new name would be in order too), but for now I'm going to concentrate on just ODE. Now if I could just solve my current bug I'd be a happy man.
