I'd like to know if someone can help me with the hardware configuration.

I'd like to buy an Intel based machine, but here the prices are multiplied by 2 (and the salaries are divided by 2. Meaning we have a 1/4 of the resources doing the same job) So, I'd like to find a configuration not too expensive but with a nice performance...

I know, miracles only on TV :D

Thanks in advance

Sergio

well obviously PC, Macs aren't know for their bang for the buck ratio. ;-)

Last time I read some opinions about best bang for the buck people were talking about the intel quad core 6600. But that could have changed in between.

Bang for your buck? Oh well. So Macs are pricey :D

I would read through this article, Extreme Tech usually does a good job of showing real world tests.

Other than that, all I can say is that I've heard good things about the Intel Quad 6600 as well. And I still believe that in general, Dells are a good pick if you don't want to build it yourself.

The Right Desktop Processor: CPU Price/Performance

this is the test you are talking about? No really up to date.

Lightwave benefits from raw CPU power, so the fastest you can get will be
good. But you'll have to check whether the price you pay for the latest and
fastest isn't too high compared to a CPU a tad slower but much cheaper.
