Here's a new 3D icon/logo I just finished. It was modeled in modo and surfaced & rendered in LightWave with a little bloom added in Photoshop.

It's an icon/logo for my new DreamLight SNUB-Launcher (http://dreamlight.com/webshop/utilities/snublauncher.html), an XCode Aqua GUI interactive front end to configure and launch ScreamerNet UB for standalone, batch and network rendering. Download the FREE LITE version (http://dreamlight.com/webshop/utilities/snublauncher.html#installation).

Hi Mike .. lookin' gorgeous ... :)

One thing that nags on me tho - the symetrical clouds of smoke in the front. It emphasises the sphere makeup of the clouds in a way...

The effect is less in the icon size pics tho ..

Ciao -

Thanks guys!

The symmetrical spheres are intentional. They are symbolic of the network render nodes that the SNUB-Launcher is configuring and launching... I was envisioning the smoke area almost as a network of silver spheres of various sizes...

:D

... tied together by the exhaust fire...

The network is a cross between fire & smoke and gold & silver... :beerchug:

Its super cute! I periodically have to make icons at work. Its a tough job to get something that works at tiny sizes.

Thanks guys!

I've had lots of previous icon design experience, including the icons for Macromedia FreeHand (http://dreamlight.com/interface/freehand.html), Macromedia Director (http://dreamlight.com/interface/director_e3d.html) and Macromedia Extreme 3D (http://dreamlight.com/interface/director_e3d.html), but those were all "old-school" 32x32 pixel hand made icons. This is my first 128x128 pixel LightWave 3D rendered icon.

Good one! :jester:

That would be a fun and interesting icon/logo... if 0090's TunaFish (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76090) wasn't just a test, I might have actually done one... There will undoubtedly be icons for the Autiton Archives (http://www.dreamlight.com/insights/autitons/) as the project progresses, but probably not a tunafish...

Hmm. the clouds make it look like cacknballs - especially larger icon size.

I believe some of the posters above kinda tried to hint at it but im a bit less subtle. lol.
Looks cool though, but i agree that the... umm fuzzy clouds should be a bit more cloudy and alot less spherical. ;)

Thanks guys!

The spheres are just symbolic of clusters of render nodes in the network, being tied together and launched by the rocket. I wanted a metallic look for the icon with silver and gold for the network area. I think you may be trying to read too much else into it.

Actually, I agree with Stooch as well to some extent.

I think all your work is superb, and like the metallic-porcelain surfacing. But I do think you need to go a bit asymmetrical and introduce some (elegant) randomness.

Think the final design and appearance MUST have priority over some intellectual idea (ie "They are symbolic of the network render nodes that the SNUB-Launcher is configuring and launching...")

(BTW: Was in your area of Boston (Woburn) the other day and thought to call in but wasn't sure you might be too busy. -Love that Freehand 5 Logo guy you made years ago).

Hi Glanalough,

Sure, next time you'll be in the area, I'd be happy to have you stop by. Just give me a heads up beforehand to set up a time, so I'll be sure to be there.

Thanks Scazzino, might be near your area again at the beginning to middle of June this year. Keep up the good work!

Love the logo! Especially the gold fire. Two of my favorite things together at last!
