View Full Version : seeing wires when using SSS and RT Shadows

I'm working on a dragon. I was intending to use an SSS shader on the wings but I'm running into a problem. When using Kappa or KappaII, a strong backlight with Ray Traced shadows turned on I am seeing the shadows of the subpatched edges. I checked the object and didn't find any doubled polys or 2 point polys.

This is with 9.3.1 on a Win32 machine.

Does anyone know what's causing this or how to work around it? The final render will be on an Intel Mac so I don't want to bother with G2 since there isn't a UB version of that plug-in available yet.

What's the geometry of the wings comprised of? Is it a single double-sided poly layer, or is it actually "thick"?

it's actually thick.

I think I figured out a way around the problem for now. The shadow wires disappeared when I turned on "Double Sided" for the surface.
