View Full Version : Christmas presents?

Just curious - what have you all asked :santa: to bring you for Christmas this year?
And, what have you bought for others?
I bought my "wife" a really nice engagement ring. Cliched, yes, I know, but I think she'll be surprised. Well, she's not my wife yet, but I often refer to her as such, being that we've been together so long. And she pretty much already acts the part. :o
She already has one, as we're already engaged and getting officially married in April, but this one is much nicer. That and some clothes which she can exchange on the 26th...
I asked her for one of Jimi Hendrix's Fender Stratocasters, but I'm kinda doubting I'll be unwrapping one anytime soon. ;) I also asked for Vue 6 X-Stream, which I have a feeling I'm getting. That'd be cool.

Got the kid (from a previous marriage) a $300.00 Best Buy gift card, and some jeans that stay up around the waste. ;)

Family, usual stuff - fruit basket and flowers for mom, some books for my stepdad, and I'm going to install some nice track lighting in their home I bought for them on Christmas day.
Other people, mostly gift cards and books and games. Got my boss a card and a Home Depot gift card, which I already gave him. Hopefully he'll use it during the workday and I'll have some peace for a few hours....

What is everybody else asking for, and what did you get for others?

Well... I asked for Guitar Hero III.:jam: But from what I've heard it is sold out everywhere.... But the people whom I have asked said if they couldn't find it before Christmas that we will get it after. All's well that ends well!

I wish I could get things for people, just don't have the monies.

Nothing especially out of the ordinary this year. I am taking my mother to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert however, which should be a nice experience.

Jimi Hendrix Fender Stratocaster? That's some major bucks...but as a side I love electric guitars. Learning Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas right now...

Have a good holiday, all! May your renders be antialiased and your mood volumetric!

If you like older rock, learn some older Boston, too. They've got some great harmony leads, which, IMHO are some of the best examples of rock harmony guitar ever.

OK, I probably won't be getting the Hendrix Strat. I'll settle for Eddie Van Halen's "frankenstrat" from their first album, or the Les Paul Jimmy Page played in The Song Remains The Same. ;)

Thanks for the well-wishes, inigo, you do the same. :)

Older rock simply rules. A coworker of mine plays a lot of Boston/Foreigner/Zeppelin/Guns N' Roses, and he's kind of breaking me out of the modern alt rock groove I was in. You can only play so much Weezer and Switchfoot.

What guitars do you play on? At the moment my sole electric is a new PRS. I wouldn't buy anything else, it sounds so sweet.

Now, to return to that Free Bird solo...

I've got a Jackson Pro strat-style with a Floyd Rose. It's about 10 years old now. And an even older Carvin solidbody electric with a doble cutaway style, 24 frets, ebony fingerboard and a Floyd Rose. I bought that in 1982, and it's still sweeet. :) For amp, I have the Peavy 5150 tube model designed by Eddie Van Halen. 100 wats, 2 4x12 cabinets with 30 watt Celestions at 16 ohms. Packs a serious punch. I had a Carvin 100 watt head too, but that died awhile ago.

Don't play Weezer. learn some Dream Theater and Floyd. ;)

Well, I heard so many Weezer riffs hummed under-the-breath from the next cubicle that I just had to try some out. ;)

Pink Floyd...awesome stuff. I'm just another brick in the wall, however, and haven't gotten to that yet.

I noticed that you're now the 4th worst animator, ever. Is this because you've gotten slightly better at animating, or there's someone even worse that took 3rd place from you?

It was all those videos William Vaughan uploaded, kind of upped me a notch. Although I might still be fighting with someone out there to make that claim. ;)

I bought my family a nice yamaha surround sound system, we've never had one save for the computer 5-1 connected to the PC which no one uses any more except me for games and music. (we're all on apple stuff now). Being 17, it hurt my wallet a lot, around $400. Everyone else is getting drawings/mix cds/some of my photo prints that I've done.

Biggest christmas present I've ever bought, and my friend and I had to carry it by hand through a mall and then jam it into his tiny little VW Golf which required some inventive maneuvering on my part.

All in all, I think it was a good thing.

I'm getting a new 'puter, but it won't be in until after the 1st of the year (ordered it too late for Christmas delivery). :(

I got my wife her favorite items: jewelry. A 1-carat right-hand ring and a tennis bracelet. Her gifts were more than the computer, but she's worth it.

Hehe - I've gone the gardening route this year, the wife gets a greenhouse and all the bits needed to grow her own plants...she *loves* gardening :D Of course there's some spangly stuff too, but we're trying to cut down on stuff we really don't need after moving house this year and promising ourselves to never junk up again.

Me, I'm hoping I get a DVR to record all the programmes on telly I'll miss whilst attempting to construct said greenhouse ;) I really couldn't think of anything I wanted so anything'll be a suprise. Well...only thing I could think of was a new engine for the VW but I'm guessing that won't happen ;)

Merry Christmas people <8D

Yeah, I had a blast with Biped while the max 2008 demo was still working. Now it just asks for money. ;)

Cool replies to this thread. :)
I want to again wish you all a very Merry Christmas! :santa:
In about an hour and a half we'll be heading south and won't be back until Christmas night. No LightWave. I should have asked for a laptop. :D

We're getting our 6 year old a Wii....he already plays games like that, so seeing him use a Wii controller should be worthy of video tape :) He also got a personalized disney story book that puts him in the middle of a Pirates story with Jack Sparrow.

I got a daughter....she just got unwrapped a little early.

I bought myself a new camera...to take pictures of the new daughter. :D

I should have asked for a laptop. :DMy wife wanted me to get a new puter so bad, so I'd stop whining about how "her" computer has better render times than mine, but we agreed on a limit for xmas spending, and I used it all on her (worth every penny). But of course it's always ok when "she" spends more than we agreed on. :D At our house, it's easy...

Her = Furnitire/Jewelry
Me = Guitar gear.

We were both very happy this year!

I hope you all are having a great Christmas/holiday/etc... :)

OK, I probably won't be getting the Hendrix Strat.
But you sure can get a Fender custom shop Relic of his '58 for a pretty reasonable price. Of course you wouldn't get it until next Christmas. It's a painful wait, but WELL worth it. I just got a Trower signature series I ordered in February. It plays like butter.

Yes, Christmas was very nice, had a great time, and I hope everyone else did, too. :)

If I wanted to be on a waiting list, I'd get a Paul Reed Smith. :D
I never really liked Fender Strats, anyway, but it'd be cool to own one of Hendrix's originals, or even one of Blackmore's...just because.
Didn't get Vue 6 X-Stream, which is fine. Maybe I'll buy it on my own. But I did get permission to buy it..eventually, which is a step in the right direction. :D
Got a real nice BenQ 24" LCD monitor though, and some shirts and pants.
And Mom sent us back home with enough food to feed a third world country. Must think we're too thin or something. ;)

I got a boom box with CD and an iPod connection for the office. My wife said I sent mixed signals on what I asked, so maybe I'm starting to change the you're-an-open-book personality :D.

My best present comes in January 8th, a baby girl.

Two months? You got lucky then. There was a time when people were waiting a few years.

Yeah, I was lucky. Thing was, I was told that it'd get to me in two weeks. I was hopeful for some reason. Luckily the model I bought was discontinued the day after I ordered it. So the value probably doubled. Or maybe I'm just being hopeful for some reason. :D All I can say is that it's very nice. I have a friend with a '80s Gibson Les Paul and he says my PRS is nicer...I'm ambivalent...

He must have a bunch of people trained working for him nowadays. I think at one point in the beginning he was building them all by hand personally. I remember reading an interview with Carlos Santana many years ago and he said he had to wait a good while to get his.

Here I am squinting at my 5" monochrome VGA monitor and you're bragging about your 24"...please, show some consideration...

Paul Reed Smith guitars are no longer quite as custom or specialised as they once were, though they're still some of the absolute best. They apparently use a sort of archaic production line...on the normal models at least, no single craftsman builds the entire guitar. Chad carves out the wood shapes, Tim sands, Juan claps them together, Richard puts in the hardware, etc. etc.

Anyway. Can anyone say :offtopic: ? :D

Due to timeconstraints and other things I spent my Christmas alone. :) My gf lives 600 kilometers away and she was to busy (work, studies) so she couldn't come to visit either. So, I have to make up for that next time she comes here (late christmas-presents). Anyhow, I got myself a QuadCore 2.4 GHz, 4GB ram that I've overclocked to 3GHz. :D

I have to say, I wasn't expecting such a huge gap between my new computer compared to the one I used to use as main computer. :) The first image is from my previous machine; dual AMD 1.8GHz (32-bit architecture). The second image is from my QuadCore. :santa:

I'm quite happy!

Yes, that IS nice, Cageman. I'd say you got just a bit of a speed increase there. ;)

You're gonna love Essential LW v9. It's a very concise book. I've had it for about four months now and still haven't read it all. I'd have paid the price for it for the node chapter and videos alone.
