Be nice to have a description of what Sumatra does, there isn't really one on the page you link to either (obviously there's the About link at the top).

We need instancing thats what we need. Sumatra... Clones?! Thats copy/paste! I have ay HUUUGE, vast (3km in all directions) area to cover with vegetation (Trees), and I have sumatra lite. WIll that cover it?

My guess is not.

HDInstance with frozen single point polys from partigon emitters seems to still be a cool option. I'm not entirely sure what Sumatra brings to the table here. Since I cannot run it, I cannot tell.

Watch the videos. This is similar in operation to what Vue's ecosystem does with plants/rocks/cars/ whatever. Looks like a great tool from what I've seen.

I think it can be great tool ....

As he said before (Svenart) that NTalready plans to implement instancing so no sense to do it.
But its a great placement tool for archvis, etc, from the the sumlite i have used ... the trees render quite fast imho using it now actually ;)

Come lets give the dude some encouragement ;)

Oh, I am quite happy to encourage. I'm just rather worried because of LW's already fairly worrisome memory footprint.

well that's a different story to fill a new book :help:

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

To diedond: I know what you mean. We all need Instances:agree: But like cgswami has already mentioned: Newtek has announced that they will bring instances in the lw 9.x cycle, so I think it would be rather pointless to work this out by myself at this moment. Im sure newtek can do this job better and so I will concentrate on adding more useful options, work on speed and workflow.Generating a few thousands of trees on a 3km big terrain is for sure possible, but if you use more than for example 3000 objects, lightwave will become slower and would need longer to render if you dont use clipmaps or lowpoly trees. A solution would be to generate most plants&trees with Sumatra modeler and so save memory and keep objectcount low. Also, you can use the subpatchlevel lod or the objectreplacement plugin "Sumatra Lod".

To Phil: Please read the plugin descriptions and take a look at the tutorials. Sumatra is not just one plugin working in modeler or Layout, Its a set of plugins for modeler AND Layout. It works in 32 and 64bit and It has alot of options most other plugins dont have plus you can be sure in future there will be much more options in it (we are already working on the next version). Im using Lightwave since nearly 10 years now. The main reason to work on this plugins was that I wanted to create a tutorial about how to create landscapes. But I was not able to find any free plugins wich would do this job. Ok, there are a lot of cloning tools, but all of them can only clone from one object at a time, most of them have no weightmap support, have no remember function, dont work on subpatched terrain, or have load/save options. With our plugin (even with the free version) you are saving much time (better workflow), and you can save your "Brushes" for later use. Also, You have a paint option in modeler, lod & referenceobject options in Layout. While working on this plugin we got much requests for it and at least I know a few studios who are already using the plugins for their work. Lastbutnotleast there are more than 30 objects (Trees, plants, stones, gras...) included, created to work with the plugin.

To James Curtis: Actually the price in US$ would be around 102$ (without VAT depending on in what country you live). You can select your currency here (http://www.shareit.com/product.html?productid=300195075&sessionid=795508449&random=44b6172103fab4a055b5b6ace1d75e5b) right on the top.
